If the official didn't feel that the receiver was materially affected, he should fired immediately. He clearly has no business officiating an NFL game ever again. [Reply]
His "rose to the level" defense is that they don't think the contact was enough to meet the definition of pass interference.

He's saying they felt the contact was insignificant with respect to MVS's opportunity to make the catch.
Not surprised by these answers. Has there ever been an NFL official who after the game said "yeah I messed up. That was totally a DPI and I called it wrong." [Reply]

They couldn't even get them to do it in the form of instant replay.

Ed Hockuli (sp) when he blew a whistle too soon negating a turnover by the Broncos to the Chargers that would have ended the game. Broncos score touchdown and go for two and win the game. [Reply]
I don’t have an issue with the non-PI on the last play. It never seems to get called on Hail Marys.
However, I just hope that it never gets called against us either. That would be a terrible way to lose when the league has made it clear that play won’t be officiated.
We should really just start having receivers tackle DBs to get someone open on that play. Dare the refs to throw the flag. [Reply]

I have a major issue with THAT. Not specific to last night, but in general across the NFL. I know they can't be ticky tacky but why does the NFL just let full-on obvious DPI happen on Hail Mary plays? That play could be really exciting, but instead it's not because it has no chance because there are seemingly no rules for the defense. You want excitement in your game. You want offense. But for some reason just completely eliminated what has the potential to be the most exciting play in sports. [Reply]
