You're not paying for Josh Allen.
You're paying for Josh Allen and the effect he'd have on the entire defense.
This team needs a consistent passrush from the front four. If you can get a consistent passrush from the front four, with Spags designing the back seven and Mahomes on the other side of the ball, you're winning at least one Super Bowl.
That's worth two firsts.
Add into that: Josh Allen fits Spags' scheme, he has all the measurables Spags desires (unlike Brian Burns or Bradley Chubb), and he's worked with Joe Cullen, who was his DC in Jacksonville.
The firsts we're also spending are bottom-of-the-1sts. They're not as valuable, and the passrushers we're going to get there are Karlaftises.
You need Karlaftis, but he doesn't win you a Super Bowl. Josh Allen wins you a Super Bowl.
I'd spend the next two first rounders on that. I'd prefer to spend less but I plan on winning Super Bowls, and that likely gets me to the finish line in 2022 alone. [Reply]

They can get that effect more cheaply than the price you’re OK with here.
A good complementary rusher can help them get them.
All of 2022 has been about setting up for the next window and creating flexibility for it. If they trade two firsts for Allen and pay him like they’ll have to, they have walked back most of that. [Reply]

Exactly.
The problem is that we simply didn't try hard enough for that complementary pass rusher in the off-season.
But that cake's been baked. I'm not sure what else can be done at this point. [Reply]
