The Franchise 10:55 AM 03-13-2022
Legal tampering period begins tomorrow, March 14th. Throw all of your rumors and moves in here.

Obviously, for the people who hate mega threads, feel free to create a new thread for larger moves and anything Chiefs.

DANIEL SORENSEN IS NO LONGER ON THIS TEAM!

Smith just makes sense because of the connection with Cullen and he won’t count against comp picks.
Exactly. As long as we don't overpay, it's really not a big deal.

Exactly. No Frank Clark type money and we'll be good. Plus, IIRC, he looked good in the playoffs. Not excellent but that was his first game back.

Not overpay is a myth most of the time. If we want him we will have to pay big. There is no deal that's good to be had with top players.

#Chiefs WR Byron Pringle is heading to free agency, after catching a career-high 42 passes for 568 yards and five touchdowns,

Expect a strong market for the 28-year old ascending receiver. #NFL

Which we shouldn't. Nearly all the guys being discussed are broke dicks

When I say "overpay" I'm talking about egregious abuses of the cap, aka Frank Clark.

I don't care if we give him big money. Just don't wreck the cap in doing so.

With the money they can easily access by breaking certain piggy banks.

1. Restructure Mahomes' $27M roster bonus into a signing bonus. = $21.6M in room

2. Extend Tyreek Hill = likely $10-12M in savings/additional room

3. Reach long-term deal with Orlando Brown, Jr. = likely another $6-8M in room

4. Cut Frank Clark = $13M in room.

Do all 4, and all of a sudden KC has around $50M in cap space to spend.

They'll do them slow and steady, though, and break the banks open as they need them.

More followers than Clays source

Per source: I’m told the Kansas City #Chiefs and Tyrann Mathieu are close to finalizing a deal that would keep the Honey Badger in KC for 2022. #NFLFreeAgency

Which is why the market probably won't develop for him in a cap crippling sort of way.

Oh sure, if someone's looking to give him 3/$45 w/ $20 million in guarantees, he'll take that. But I don't think anyone will be. He's realistically going to be looking at 2 year deals with mostly fake money in year 2.

I can live with that. And unless/until we hit on some DL in the draft, that's the kind of churn we're going to have to live w/ on the DL. We just can't afford to go crazy w/ LTCs for defensive lineman right now.

The #Packers are also releasing OT Billy Turner, per source.

The thing about Smith too is that he already came back from the injury and played, now he has the entire offseason off too.
