Story by Andrew Gould

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl without a star wide receiver, but they could reportedly make an elite offense even scarier by acquiring DeAndre Hopkins.

NFL insider Benjamin Albright told PHNX Cardinals that Kansas City is the "primary suitor" for Hopkins. He doesn't know the draft compensation the Cardinals would receive, but he said it's more likely they get a second-round pick than a first.

After the 2022 season, theScore's Jordan Schultz reported that the Cardinals plan to trade Hopkins this offseason.

Arizona hired a new general manager and head coach after a disappointing four-win season, and Hopkins is set to make $19.45 million (with a $30.75 million cap hit) in 2023. The Cardinals could seek a clean slate by moving the three-time All-Pro wideout, who turns 31 in June.

Hopkins began his Cardinals career by tallying 1,407 yards and six touchdowns in 2020. However, multiple lower body injuries limited him to 10 games in 2021, and he served a six-game suspension to start the 2022 season for violating the NFL's PED policy.

Yet he remains an impact player when on the field. Hopkins totaled 474 receiving yards in six full games with quarterback Kyler Murray last season.

Now imagine what he can accomplish when catching passes from Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs flourished without a star replacement for Tyreek Hill, but they could still benefit by solidifying the position this offseason. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a free agent after garnering 78 catches for 933 yards on a one-year deal. The depth chart features several talented question marks in Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Adding Hopkins could be great news for Kansas City, but terrible for all opposing defenses.

Do we want a high priced prima donna?

Lol, and are you suggesting that we'll somehow get equal production out of this draftee for a fifth of the money? Because t's a lot more likely we'll get 1/5th the production as well, which would make that about as bad a trade/deal as you could think of.

Given the draftee probably has 5x the career left that’s hard to say. I doubt repercussions would be much different if dhop got traded and became AJ green as if a draftee was the next Jon Baldwin.

League circles indicate Hopkins may or may not be traded to Kansas City in the coming days.

But pretty easy to predict who would have more production over the next 2 years of the current Super Bowl window though.

The Chiefs are in a SB window as long as Andy is the HC and Pat is the QB.

We should have learned by now... Veach isn't signing older vets at a premium or giving valuable draft capital to get one. He may trade a ham sandwich for D-hop if, and only if, AZ eats at least half his contract. We have a GM that gets the value of looking 5 years out instead of 5 months.

As time goes on, it makes more and more sense to do this, if they can work out a reasonable deal. I don't see any of the WRs in the draft being on Hopkins' level within the next few years (if ever).

KC has more draft picks than they can even sign. Trade up twice. Bolster the DL with a couple high picks, invest in an OT relatively high, then take BPA the rest of the way.

If you could take Gibbs, trade for Hopkins and come out of the 2nd/3rd round with a DE and or a DT....I'd think that would be fine

5 months? If Veach/Andy are serious about acquiring Deandre it has nothing to do with the next 5 months. At minimum we're talking about the next two years, and probably he'd be extended as long as he stayed healthy in 2023, so more like 3+ years.

No one trades multiple picks and eats that much salary for 5 months. Well, except for idiots, and sure there are those GMs/FOs, but those are the exception.

DHop would be the bridge as Travis inevitably slows down over the next couple years, and as the top-tier vet in the building that leavens all the youth we have for the next few years.

He also virtually guarantees SB appearances for the next two to three years.

That's why you trade for DHop. Not for a piddling 5 months.

Hopkins is the mistake GM's make trying to win now. It's not going to happen, it is short sighted, worrying about this season that is less than 5 months away and isn't a long term solution. We don't need to chase names and old vets anymore and some of our fan base need to understand this... Guarantees SB appearances? Really, we have players that need to get paid off their rookie deals, DHop coming here negates a lot of that. Again, if AZ picks up a large sum of his salary and the draft capital is minimum, sure, but that's not what we are discussing.

That'd be a lot better than fine.

I'd say it would be downright amazing!
