Nzoner's Game Room>Off Season Lets Talk Guns, Part 2
HonestChieffan 11:58 AM 01-23-2011
Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

Ah, ok. When you get it complete, that should be a pretty sweet machine. I've got one Wilson AR and I really like it. I only have the Wilson flip up sites on it.
A buddy of mine has had lots of their guns, mainly custom 1911's and those were sweet, but he had a few rifles as well (yes, he has spent some serious coin). Then he shifted gears into Nighthawk and thats how I got into my Wilson lol.

I only asked about the barrel because life seems to be shorter on creedmoor. Maybe its just me, I don't study the specs. I have a ruger precision creedmoor and when I was looking into it, it seemed like it had a shorter barrel life? But maybe thats just me not being in the know.

At under 3000fps (Google 2710fps) its shouldn't be a barrel burning round.

I can wreck any barrel if I try.

I built an Armalite AR10 SASS 7.62 about 12 years ago. They are around a 3k rifle, but I built it for half. When I called the company and asked him why the huge price difference, he said the complete rifle has a tax attached to it and the parts don’t.

Take it for what it’s worth. He might have been full of shit.

Popped my first balloon at 1k yards with that sucker, so it was on point.

Stopped by the local gun shop just now. I don't believe I'd been in there since I bought my new Sig last year.

The good news - they still have some guns. The selection is probably about half of what it was before the apocalypse hit, but they still have a passable selection of pistols and a few ARs. Of course, most of the cheaper entries are gone. There were two ARs in the $700-$800 range, and everything else was in the $2,000+ range. Zero bullpup shotguns; hell, I think I only saw two shotguns on the wall.

The bad news - there was pretty much no ammo outside of obscure stuff. Zero 9mm, 10mm, .40, .45, .38, .357, .223, .308 or .762. About the only thing they did have in stock that I was familiar with was .44 magnum, so I guess if Dirty Harry stops by he'll be set. Outside of that, though, just a giant selection of shit outta luck. One of the guys who works there says it goes out as soon as they get it in. The ammo section, which at one point comprised several aisles, is now about the size of mini-fridge in my den. If that.

Fuck. :-)

I have stopped even trying shopping for ammo locally these days. Wasted too much time. I just buy it off of Gun Broker at inflated prices and deal with the buyers remorse for a week. I am saving on fuel so that's nice

Welp, I ordered another pistol, another HK, HK45 compact. To go along with my P30sk, VP9sk and VP9 Tactical. Guess Momma is getting a new necklace or earrings, so that she can’t get on me too much. I also have to play nice, cause I need another, much bigger gun safe.

Now you've viewed the world of us muggles who hadn't prepared ahead of time.

The gun club keeps ammo behind the counter, you can get 100 rounds a day, sometimes more if they get a big shipment in. I get 100 .45, 9mm, 5.56 each time. $135. I have over 1000 rounds of each flavor now, figure I'll get up to 2000 and sit. I'm going shooting with my son tomorrow so that will take the numbers down some.

I got that new .22 and need to go find some .22LR for that thing now too.

12 gauge double-aught and slugs are out on the shelf, no limit, so that's good.

So I was talking with a gun store owner earlier today, and he was saying that .22LR was going for 20-30 cents per round. That sounded pretty high to me. Even during the worst parts of the Obama years, it was around 10 cents per round, or maybe slightly more.

The worst I ever saw was during the "Sandy Hook" years, and they were getting $150-175 for a 550 brick of basic .22 at gun shows.

That's 27-32 cents per.

Hope to God that that doesn't become *ugh the "new normal."

If it stays like this I'll reload my 223 with "cheapie" bullets for a dime a piece. I got plenty of primers and powder.
