Sure, they choked in the 2013 playoff game but the defense WON games, all by itself, several times during the Alex Smith tenure.
This idea that the defense has been bad for several years is a myth.
I don't think it's difficult to argue that the defense has outperformed the offense over the last 3 years in the playoffs.
Texans game? Shut out.
Patriots game? Held them to 27 points/340 total yds on the road.
Steelers game? Didn't allow a TD.

Well Id assume all teams rushing numbers increased towards the end of the season and im not manipulating the numbers. Mack averaged 75 ypg. His stat line agaonst the Giants is atrocious 12 rushes for 34 yards and they were the 20th ranked rushing we defense. 57% or 516 of his 908 yards came in 4 games. Hes a very average back and in no way does he scare me. [Reply]
