I use 12+35=47 as my opening guess. Plus seems to be the most common operator, two digit numbers seem to be the most common answers, and this guess knocks out a good number of numbers, including the common “1”.
After that, finding exactly where the equal sign goes, and which operator goes where is the priority, with less emphasis in exploring untried digits. I can usually do it in less than 10 minutes. There was one a few days ago that I was struggling to come up with a legal answer that used all of the revealed info. I was running out of time and wouldn’t be able to return to the puzzle before it ended. I had to use a guess that couldn’t possibly be correct to reveal more info, then got it right away on the next guess. I usually find Nerdle to be the most fun of the three I play daily. [Reply]

I use 9+8-2=15 as an opener so I can get two operators in there. I haven’t really noticed a greater preference for + than -, but those operators are certainly more common than * or /. [Reply]
