Two benchmark U.S. stock indexes are careening toward a historically bad December.

Both the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 are on pace for their worst December performance since 1931, when stocks were battered during the Great Depression. The Dow and S&P 500 closed Monday down 7.6 percent and 7.8 percent this month, respectively.

December is typically a very positive month for markets. The Dow has only fallen during 25 Decembers going back to 1931.

The S&P 500 averages a 1.6 percent gain for December, making it typically the best month for the market, according to the Stock Trader’s Almanac.

While the S&P 500 began dissemination in 1950, the performance data was backtested through 1928. It’s worth noting that historically, the second half of December tends to see gains.

"The worst December since the Great Depression". "Market down over 1,000 points since the GOP tax plan was passed".

Wow.
:-) Are the Trump supporters getting tired of all this winning yet?

To be fair, you can't really blame the plunging Dow on the tax cut. Although it can be argued that adding $2 Trillion to the debt can't be good for the stock market, most analysts agree that it's more likely that Trump's idiotic trade war is the cause.

The recent performance of the Dow does show us two things:
  1. Trump is an idiot. Trade wars are NOT good, and they are NOT easy to win.
  2. The tax cut is not the magic cure-all that the GOP believes it to be. All it did was add $2 Trillion to the debt.

I'm just glad I pulled my 401-K funds OUT of the stock market when I did. I'm not putting them back in until after Trump leaves office. Of course, the way things are looking, that will probably be Q2 of 2019.

Yes, he “used to be a moderate Republican.”

You are hilarious. You continue to do face plants in this thread, and you clearly don't understand what the chart says. It shows that market is down over 1,000 points in the last year. It fluctuated widely during the year and set new record highs in 2018. But then Trump decided to start a trade war with China and several other countries, and now the market is in free fall.

If Trump weren't such a ****ing idiot, the Dow wouldn't be down 1,000 points for the year, and he could keep bragging about it. But he IS a ****ing idiot.

And so are you.
If the trade war is the cause, why are you pointing out the tax cut in the chart?

Because, as I said in the OP, the tax cut is not the magic cure-all that the GOP believes it to be. It also provides an interesting historical perspective that ties two failed economic policies together.

The longest we have ever gone without a recession is 10 years. How long has it been since the last recession? About 10 years.
Market correction is a necessity; it's what makes a market a market. Multiple factors feed in to market performance with interest rates both real and predicted being a very large factor.
I'm well aware of how often recessions occur, and I'm well aware of the frequency and the necessity of market corrections. However, not all recessions are equal, nor are all market corrections equal. When the stock market is down over 1,000 points over the last 12 months and the country is on pace for the worst December since the Great Depression, that's newsworthy. I think Eleazar summed it up pretty well with this post:

None of which changes teh fact your sole motivation here is a ham handed attempt to lash out at Trump.

It's not the first time Eleazar has demonstrated his lack of knowledge where conservative and centrist motivations are concerned.

You should stop being such a triggered snowflake, and you should stop presuming that you know what motivates other people. It just makes you look like a buffoon.

This idiot thinks the fed just up and raises the rates and no k e knows it was going to happen until it did.

Pro tip there idiot. The market has been factoring in rate increases since it was announced they would start raising them.

The market didn't magically become aware of this.

Yeah, Lex and his Trump-obsessed theories got owned by the Fed today. Your post was practically prophetic. :-)

I know you professional victims need to blame anything other than Trumps own failed policy, but whining about a 2.5 is just pathetic.
