“We are sending a signal across the nation and to the global community that we make these changes in the spirit of truth-telling,” Council Member Alondra Cano said ahead of the Council meeting.
“Now that we have established Indigenous People's Day, every child -- whether that child is native or whether that child is not -- will learn the truth about where America really comes from," added U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison.
Legacy of his leadership, or because his gigantic craggy face is impervious to jackhammers?
No, if it goes, it goes. Most people do not really appreciate having the image of their conquerors' heroes blasted into their holy lands. With an increasingly sympathetic populace and a well-placed campaign, it's possible it could be removed either as a gesture or as an act of enthusiastic but daring vandalism within two generations or so.
The other two possibilities, of course, are a natural disaster, or to have it blown to kingdom come by our conquerors, both of which are less likely. [Reply]
If people put half as much time in to being productive as they do being a bunch of tools, this entire fucking Country would be rich, every man, woman, and child. [Reply]
Aries, Abe will go nowhere. He was a friend of the black man against the evil white debbils so he stays. But who knows about the other 3. Maybe they'll re-fashion their images to put some of the true greats:
1) Obummer
2) Ceasar Chavez (can't think of any hispanic heroes but one will be necessary)
3) Sandra Fluke [Reply]
Ah, silly me. I thought you were saying that it would come down because it will someday be seen as insulting to Native Americans. Now I realize you were just venting how much you think anyone but white men is beneath contempt.

No shit. People act like he's some kind of founding father. The fairy tale narrative that some of these people buy into about history is pretty awesome.
Next thing they'll be telling us is that Paul Bunyan didn't really make the Grand Canyon with his axe! [Reply]
