BigRedChief 08:29 PM 01-08-2015
Feel free to discuss any future speculation, theories. Anything from the books is fair game to post. Everything that has been broadcast on TV or from HBO. No spoilers needed.

  1. If you watched or know the events that will take place in a unaired episode that has not been broadcast on HBO, you must put all the information and comments in a spoiler tag.
  2. Do not post any media of any kind involving actual content from unaired episodes without being in a spoiler. The only exception to the spoiler rule is content publicly posted from HBO and or the GOT actor themselves. Teasers, promos, trailers etc.

Any person unable to follow the spoiler rules will be banned from this thread. 14 days for first offense. Perm banned from the thread for a 2nd offense.

Actually I think everything should be as realistic as possible within the set of boundaries given. If Martin says king's blood is special, with certain properties based on specific situations, he damn well better meet the criteria he sets forth.

I love hard scifi. I love any fictional stories that can setup new worlds/universes with fantastical breaks from our own reality, and create strict rules about those breaks. It keeps my skeptical mind busy thinking about the story and its constraints, allowing me to "suspend my disbelief" for a time and be drawn into the story. If the cynical side of mind has something to keep it busy, the dreamer in me can escape for a bit.

EDIT:
I kind of quit on that for this story. Mainly because I find myself wishing Martin would receive the Brandon Sanderson treatment. I won't be reading the remainder of the series, just watching HBO and picking up other authors who can finish stories in my lifetime.

These guys are acting like it should be realistic in relation to OUR LIVES. That's what I'm talking about

That's pretty much what kills me with Stephen King. The stories are fantastic, but he can spend 12 pages describing a spoon.

I have always believed that King's blood means a connection to the targaryen line. And the greatest acts of magic worked to date in the series (dany and jon, assuming he's also resurrected in book 6) seem to reflect that.

Magic is real in that world and when one is looking for 'realism' one has to acknowledge that. So things like blood magic and the power and presence of king's blood are likely to have deeper layers.

Speaking of Dany Magic... Have seen some theories that part of her magic was binding the souls of the men she named her dragons for to the dragons, that this is the only way to wake a dragon egg.

I don't think it stacks up, but it's interesting. I could maybe buy Drogo, but Viserion and her son, not so much.

If you've been reading the books, there are a lot of indications Melisandre has been misinterpreting her visions - seeing Stannis when actually it's Jon Snow. So her power being used to res Snow is actually just in line with everything she's been seeing (but not seeing).
Thoros had zero faith in R'hllor when he resurrected Beric.

There are hundreds of pages about what people are eating...
Especially those pies that Wyman Manderly made.

And you are questioning the kings blood angle?

Btw I wasn't only talking about you.

Omg the dogs disappeared, well guess what?

Some 1000 years old lady who looks younger when she has a necklace on also resurrects people...

I think it's a legitimate question. You realize how convoluted the shit is? Say you start with one king. All of his close relatives and descendants also have king's blood. Then, it seems anyone else who is anointed or claims kingship also receives the same "benefit" for lack of a better term. Fast forward a few generations and you could legit be talking about hundreds of people with magical king's blood. Just makes me wonder..

It's fantasy so I'm not saying it needs to be realistic; I'm merely wondering how the lines will be defined within the universe. It doesn't faze me when some weird magical shit takes place because this show has done a pretty good job of setting up its own fantastical rules, but if Optimus Prime dropped out of the sky and started fighting white walkers I'd be like "what the fuck is this shit?".

I just can't fucking believe these cunts thought it more prudent to show Sam on a boat and Arya getting beat again than add a few more lines of dialogue and 2 more characters for the Tower of Joy.

Just silly.

Howland Reed wasn't a knight so him backstabbing Dayne was perfectly okay.
