Nzoner's Game Room>The Motorcycle Discussion Thread

I figure there are some motorcycle guys/gals on CP, so I thought we could have a place to talk all things Motorcycles.

Tire Mount and Balance Prices (as of 10/29/16)

Prices based on if you remove the wheels yourself and bring the wheels and new tires with you:

Cycle Gear - $35 per wheel if you buy tires from them. $58 per wheel if you buy tires elsewhere
Rawhide - $65 per wheel (assuming it would be the same at other HD dealers. they book it at 1/2 hr per wheel)
C R Cycle Tires (DeSoto) - $30 per wheel

Cheapest I've found my Michelin Commander II's. Seem like they have good prices on other brands too.
http://www.jakewilson.com - Free 3 day shipping on orders over $75

I can't remember when the first time fell in love with motorcycles in a typical romantic fashion. But I do remember, vividly the first day/time I heard a Ducati.

Circa 2003 at Shawnee cycle plaza. Waiting to pick up a a new visor I ordered. Then I hear it. A Duct 748 (yellow) rolling up, eating through the gears during engine breaking coming off of 63/ Shawnee mission parkway. I literally went outside to see what kind of hot rod had pulled up. I managed to catch about the last two gears of a rider engine breaking. I was awestruck. I had. NEVER heard anything like it. I would imagine it would be like being a kid in the early 70s hearing a Chevy big block, or other healthy motor of your choice, rolling up next to you and your family in the family truckster.

Truly fucking amazing and had a huge impact on my memory I'll never forget.

Dude, to this day, when I see a Kerker logo,I think of that bike. Same with the VH KAwi (which they started to produce again. Not sure if they still are, but when they did....I had nothing but awesome memories of the crazy guy in his 20s who had one and lived on my street with I was 8-10yrs old.

I have always had a thing for Triumphs. But in my opinion for the price I would get the new Ducati Scrambler. Its lighter, smaller and has more HP.
I been talking so much about the Ducati, the wife said get one. Just doesn't make sense since I already have an adventure Tiger 800XC.
My plan is to find an old Honda Scrambler.

For the longest time I have been putting mine on a typical Motorcycle Trailer I borrow from a friend. It does a great job, kind of a bitch to get up on the ramp because at one point you are out in space with a 500 lb bike.
Anyway, lately I have been looking at something like this.

Anybody got any history with this kind of Toyhauler or Toyhaulers in General?

I think it would be great. Load up, head to Colorado, camp and ride.
Geez, that would only work for small bikes because of the door being on the side. WTF? No way I could turn my Road Kind enough to get it in there.

One guy we ride with….man, this guy I could call him tonight and see if he wanted to ride to Texas and he’d be up for it lo. Hell, last summer he got in trouble with his wife because we left work for a ride, and rode to ****ing New York. Had the following day off (Friday) of work, then rode back that weekend. That dude will literally ride wherever as long as he doesn't have to be at work. So, I’m sure he’ll be fine riding straight through, but that will be a LONG day on the 72, and my brother on his night train.

I’m sure adrenaline will kick in on the ride up and it would be doable (baring weather). But the ride back….I’m thinking will have to be divided up into 2 days. We’ll probably only hit the ‘Sturgis’ nut-house maybe either a full day, or maybe like 2 partial days. The rest of the time we plan on riding.
That sounds like a good plan. I'm thinking of hitting Sturgis one of these years, perhaps this year. I've never been during bike week (was there in 2000 the week leading up to the rally). Kind of like you, just something I want to cross off my bucket list.

I kinda like the side door option. That setup leaves an undisturbed camper in the back. Your right it would be way to small for a big bike. I would be putting the Triumph Tiger 800 in it.

yeah. a little of a rally goes a long way with me. and I'm sure Sturgis even more so. it'll be cool to have a few beers, people watch, get some souvenirs etc....but we plan on being back in Wall by probably 6pm each night. i've read that Deer/Buffalo/other shit come out near dusk. Plus, if everything goes right, we'll be tired from riding all day anyway.

We have been a couple times, good idea to be off the road @ night.

Last year we stayed in Deadwood. It was great, park the bikes and hang out drink do what ever just be off the road.

Good to know about the deer. Wife and I rode to a concert at the Starlight a couple years ago. Coming back we saw a fresh deer carcass in the middle of the highway. That was a little scary and I have never been more alert on a night ride.

Yeah, I've never been much into the biker party thing. Hell, in the several years that I've been riding I have been to a biker bar in Topeka once. I'll go to Sturgis (and BBB) to experience a bit of the atmosphere. Maybe get a tshirt or other souvenir but I'm sure I won't want to be there more than a day or so. Besides, the scenery up there is beautiful. Why would you want to waste much of your time not on your bike? :-)

LOL can't have too many bikes :-)

which model are you looking at? seems there are several release pics and perhaps a few different models of scrambler from DUC -- I found this pic, is that it?

exactly.
hell, I don't know when, if ever, I'll get back up into that area; let alone while riding a motorcycle. Life happens way too fast and you never know if it might only be your one-time shot at getting up there. sure as hell don't want to spend it drinking $7 beers (or whatever they probably cost) at Full Throttle Saloon, and basically idling/walking my bike down main street for hours on end. We'll go; grab some shirts, souviners, have a few cold ones over the course of a few hours, people watch......then back on the road.

Ahh, that is neat. I like the old school look of it. One thing I notice about the DUC's is the lacking skid plate and no down tubes to attach one.

I know that Triump Scrambler is expensive as hell, but I really like the preserved old school look of it.... I'll probably wait a few years and buy one used from ebay. Or, if some extra cash shakes loose this spring...... vrrrrroooom - Triump style !!!

Last evening I got my first ride in since Christmas day. It was just a trip over to the bank but it was nice. Wanted to ride into work this morning but it was only 19 degrees. I hate winter.

anyone going to the bike show up in North KC this weekend?

Supposed to be 50+ degrees out, so my brother and I will probably ride up (last year it was 47 when we left, but the temp dropped to like 35 while we were there; cold MF ride home lol).

if anyone is interested going and wants to ride out, hit me up. I'm in Lenexa (95th and Marshall Dr). Probably leave around 1000-1030.
