Nzoner's Game Room>Prepare for Drama... MO Gov. Parsons commutes sentence for Britt Reid
Dante84 04:13 PM 03-01-2024
Yikes.

JUST IN: Britt Reid was sentenced to three years in prison after he was convicted in a DUI crash that severely injured five-year-old Ariel Young.

That sentence has been commuted.

Here's a PDF of the commutation order. The duration of his sentence isn't changed, but he's under house arrest now instead of in prison. Also lots of conditions around parole and community service. But still.

Wait what? I'll need someone to cite the average sentence of drunken drivers who almost kill children. There's no way it's less than 3 years. Especially with his previous legal issues.

Man, if the sentence was harsher than others convicted of the same crime, they probably oughta work on how they're sentencing other people.

Seems to me that getting a whopping 3 years for slamming drunk into a vehicle and damn near killing a kid oughta not elicit a 'woah, that's pretty harsh' from anyone.

I assume that governor isn't running for re-election? This is a really, really bad look.

File this under unexpected perks of winning 3 Superbowl's in 5 years.

I expect being under house arrest is not going to be as nice as he thinks it is. This has recidivism written all over it.

Yeah, he's in his second (final) term as governor, and that goes until 2026. By then if he runs for some other job people will probably have forgotten about this.

I don't know how Florio can continue to cover the NFL after this.

While he’s at Andy Reid’s non-existent retirement party.

Here's what I found with a little Googling:

So 3 years is on the lower end of the range but not the lowest.
