So there's an article on NFL network saying that Orlando Brown is expected to sign for 6 years $145 mil.
That comes to $24.16 mil/yr and makes him the highest paid offensive lineman in football. It also would give him the 19th highest salary per year in the NFL
How would you feel if that is the contract he ended up signing?
I'm fine with it. He is a top 5 LT and he's only 26 next season. A young great LT is a guy you can't let leave. [Reply]

There's a very obvious path where the contract is both:
1) Bigger than Ronnie Stanley's deal on the part of the contact that is REAL (5/105)
2) The biggest contact ever for a LT in total dollars, with an obvious cut/restructure year tacked on the end (6/145)
Brown gets the satisfaction of beating Stanley in both actual dollars that will be paid and also gets the bragging rights for the biggest deal. [Reply]
Veach likes to use injury and $$ guarantees in lieu of big signing bonuses that can destroy the cap. In this case that becomes harder given the relatively small $16+ million he’d earn under the tag. If they can get OBJ to accept more of an annual structure with a real guarantee of $60 million. They’ll find some funny money to get him over $140mm but I’d expect a real average of around $20 per in those first three years.

I can't remember the last time the Chiefs anybody to a front-loaded contract.
Veach never did it. Dorsey didn't do it. I don't remember if Pioli tried doing that kind of thing with a player or two. Pretty sure Carl tended to backload everything, too. [Reply]
