Is this a thing where some people intentionally take oxy laced with fentanyl but Skaggs system may not have been prepared for such a hot dose? Did the guy that was putting the pills together knock a bag of fentanyl into his oxy?

What am I missing about why this is a thing that would've happened to begin with?
Fentanyl is much much cheaper than oxy. So pill maker buys some fentanyl, filler, and a pill press. So he mixes it all up and some pills have too much fentanyl, because of how strong it is and this dude making pills has a scale that is off. He wasn't trying to kill the guy, but he still made alot of money because of how much oxy goes for and how cheap you can get fentanyl. Plus it's not hard to find people who want to buy oxy.

So it's the modern day equivalent of bathtub gin making people go blind.

Interesting.

Plus fentanyl is pretty shitty when it comes to recreational value.

My reference to "mainstream' was meant more as in its become way more common. Common and mainstream are pretty much interchangeable.

The opioid crisis was caused by idiots in the government. They came out and said oh opiates are addictive, so let's regulate the shit out of it and these people that have been taking it for years and years and are now addicted to it, well too bad, no more pills that you've had access to for decades. Well opioid withdrawal isn't fun, so these people go to the streets. Well now it's harder to get pain pills, so drug dealers get online order a shit ton of fentanyl from China and start making fake pills.

So people think they're buying 10 mg oxy and say that person usually takes 30 mgs at a time. Instead of getting 30 mgs of oxy they are getting an unknown quantity of fentanyl or hell maybe a fentanyl analog like carfentanyl which is 100 to 200 times more potent than fentanyl.

Let's say you're lucky and you get the real deal, so you're alive. Well you're broke as can be from spending all your money on oxy, so your drug dealer says hey I can get you something else that's not as expensive and it works as good as oxy. Well you're broke and sick as shit so you get some heroin. Well fuck that's laced with fentanyl too and you just died.

All because the government decided opiates were too addictive and your doc cut you off cold turkey, because he had to follow new regs and all these doctors are getting arrested for running pill Mills.

kind of except most don’t know it’s bathtub gin, it’s supposed to be the real thing. I’m assuming Prince and the professional ball player can afford the real deal and was assured it was real Oxy.

Same thing with Prince and thousands of others, they think they are taking Oxy but it’s laced with Fentayl and they are probably not even aware of it in their OXy.

Wrong and right.

The Joint Commission and big Pharma are who/what started the opioid crisis around 2001.

Between TJC pushing to have pain classified and treated as a vital sign and big pharma companies aggressively marketing and lying about how addictive the newer opiates (oxycontin for example) were it was a recipe for the crisis.
Then the government stepped in and started heavily regulating opiates without a plan to deal with the fallout.

Angels employee details team's knowledge of Tyler Skaggs' drug use to DEA

A public relations employee for the Los Angeles Angels told federal investigators that he provided oxycodone to Tyler Skaggs and abused it with him for years, and that two team officials were told about Skaggs' drug use long before his death, according to two sources familiar with the investigation.

Eric Kay, the Angels' director of communications, also gave U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents the names of five other players who he believed were using opiates while they were Angels, the sources said.
