Media Center>Time again for a new phone
Dartgod 08:28 PM 07-14-2013
So I'm eligible to upgrade my cell phone again August 1st. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S2 through Sprint and was ready to get the S4. Now I see that LG is set to release their Optimus G2 sometime in August.

I've never considered LG, but I'm intrigued by what I've read.

Has anyone else looked at this and is it worth waiting another month or so for the LG?

Also, does anyone in the KC area have any experience with Sprint's LTE 4G? Is coverage still spotty?

I'm kinda curious how this OnePlus One phone is going to turn out.

Seems a little too good to be true from all the rumors. Flagship specs, Cyanogenmod out of the box, 5.5" screen that is smaller than the Z1 at Nexus prices? We'll see about that...

It does use a micro SIM. But in the past, I've just asked and they've typically given me one for free in-store.

I have a Nexus 5 on T Mobile. I am very pleased with it. I used to have the Samsung GS3 which I was also very happy with. The reason that I upgraded was to get LTE.

T Mobile works well where I live and spend 95% of my time. They are not good in rural areas. The Google Play Store version of the N5 does not have wifi calling for T Mobile. This is going to be a big challenge for me when I go skiing next month as there is no service in the area. With the SG3 I just used wifi calling.

And while you certainly CAN put one of those monstrosities in your pants pocket, they certainly don't work in an arm pocket while I'm mowing and listening to music, which is the #2 thing I do with my phone after making and receiving PHONE calls.

I understand why people would like them if they're using them as a hybrid device.
The only reason I don't have a tablet is because I refuse to pay for data on 2 devices. And I'm not gonna pay extra for a Hotspot on my Note 3.

iPhones are completely useless to me.

I download movies and TV shows while I'm on the road, and watch them via MHL adapter to my TV.

Can't do that on an iPhone.

Of course you can. I've done it countless times.

There are torrent clients for iOS. But it's easier to simply stream them directly. That's what I do. I can stream anything I want directly without having to download it first. Or I can stream it while downloading in the background if I want to keep it..

Totally get that. I don't have to pay extra for a hotspot so it's not a big deal for me. I also don't generally use the tablet in places where there isn't wifi, I just use my phone.

I also work for a wireless company, so I don't have to pay for data on my tablet even if I use it.

That's been rumored for a while. Not the iPhone6 but more like an iPhone5p (for phablet). :-)

My Note 2 doesn't look anything like that in my pockets. My guess is this is a troll, or midget.

BTW, does anybody know if the Samsung Mega II or the Note 4 will come out first? Rumored that the Note 4 will come out in Septempberish.

I can't find anything on the Mega 2.

Looks like the Note 4 comes out this fall.
