Nzoner's Game Room>Zach Wilson Possibly Lost Starting Job?
Sassy Squatch 04:47 PM 11-21-2022

#Jets HC Robert Saleh said he's evaluating everything and they aren't committing to Zach Wilson as this week's starter vs. the Bears.

That's a ****ing leader. This team wants to run through a burning brick wall for Mahomes. It's part of what makes him legendary already.

Paragraph two, I'm not as sure about. How do you know he'll get it eventually? He does have arm talent, but so do most NFL level QB's. Field vision, accuracy, decision making, these things he seems to lack. Can he learn them? History generally says no but we'll see. But I don't think he has a long leash, clearly.
If NY wants to throw away a young talented QB who they made a Top pick a year and a half ago because he made some immature statements, then by all means. But that's fucking retarded. You coach the kid up and help him mature, not throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Put Wilson with someone like Reid or Payton and he would excel IMO. The arm talent is there. The maturity is not. It's fixable. He needs instruction and direction. Not everyone is Mahomes right out of the gate. We don't realize how fucking lucky we are to have him. Wilson can be salvaged.

Just a matter of whether the Jets wanna put in the work and the time to do it.

If they let him go it wouldn’t be because of his statements. It would be because he sucks. Plenty of QBs in the NFL that have all the arm talent in the world but lack the other tools to be a successful QB.

While that's true, they JUST drafted him last year . . . . . . . as the #2 overall pick in the draft. If they give up on him now (or at the end of this season), that's fucking retarded.

Can you imagine if the Chiefs did something like that in the pre-Mahomes era? We would all be livid!

If he’s lost the locker room and his team mates hate him… as has been reported… that might be tough to bounce back from.

Agreed, but at the same time if it’s not looking like he will be the guy they drafted they would be better off cutting their losses vs continuing to sink more resources into a lost cause.

Well most of this debate started when it was suggested that saleh is on the hot seat. Even though the rest of the jets are playing great. They’re literally a qb away from having a really good team. Maybe a lot of that is coaching but the reaction from the teammates suggests a lot of it is on the qb. You don’t want to throw away a potentially solid coach if he could thrive with a simple qb change.

My personal opinion is you sink or swim the rest of the year with Flacco. You take Wilson out of the equation and see if this is a lafleur problem. Meanwhile Zach Wilson needs to be put on the hot seat next year to earn his job. Maybe that will finally light a fire in his ass. Because it’s hard to believe his lack of improvement can be entirely pinned on coaching.

In the meantime, do what Seattle did. They gave Matt flynn a huge contract. Then traded for Charlie whitehurst and then let Russell Wilson win the job despite his draft status. Make Wilson earn it next year.

Even with the Raiders having an awful season, nobody in that locker room thinks Carr is a weak punk with no leadership qualities. That's the difference.
You can't sell a player like Elijah Moore who already checked out.

Wilson should be benched.

Period.

If that doesn't wake him up, draft another QB.

The days of dooming your franchise for a decade by burning a high draft pick on the wrong QB are over.

Great post.

I actually would not be surprised to see the Jets trade him.

Because they are the Jets. There is a reason their team has done nothing in decades.

I would definitely give him another year but I would be shocked if he became anymore than what he is right now.

I think I have seen enough though to feel pretty confidant he will be a bust.

Besides geno who took a decade to flourish who have they traded away prematurely? Because they sold on sanchez and darnold too late, not too early. What’s more “because Jets” is taking a guy number 2 on pure arm talent. Not anticipating these leadership issues. Or questioning his experience. Solely on the basis of him throwing a crazy off platform combine pass in shorts.

It's not like they paid him Sam Bradford's rookie deal, either. If you don't think he's the guy, then cut bait and try to get a mid-round lottery ticket.

The Jets weren't the only team that were going to draft him top 5.

And it's based on a lot more than a combine throwing in shorts.

This is a QB league and there is a lot more to thriving than just acquiring the right QB talent.

You also have to create an offense based on that QB's skills. So far the Jets are an F for this.

You also have to surround that QB with quality pieces so far they have a rookie in Wilson, a bust in Mims, and a guy that is bleh but wants to be traded in Moore.

I love Breece Hall but he's injured.

Exactly. If they aren’t 100% sure he is the guy, they are better off moving on after the season vs hoping the light turns on. Each year they commit to him being their starter if they aren’t sure is a year they miss out on possibly getting a replacement QB and another year gone on the contracts of the young talent they currently have.
