So there's an article on NFL network saying that Orlando Brown is expected to sign for 6 years $145 mil.
That comes to $24.16 mil/yr and makes him the highest paid offensive lineman in football. It also would give him the 19th highest salary per year in the NFL
How would you feel if that is the contract he ended up signing?
I'm fine with it. He is a top 5 LT and he's only 26 next season. A young great LT is a guy you can't let leave. [Reply]
And guys, we probably needed to trade Tyreek anyway. Regardless of this.
We needed to pivot and change. A refresh. The offense has to be about Mahomes. It can't be Tyreek Tyreek Tyreek, especially as he starts getting older.
And it's not like the money we could have paid Tyreek just flies out the window now. If Brown plays on the tag and still is being a butt and we decide to ship his ass out of town, then we still have that money to play with. AND the draft picks.
The Tyreek trade I think will still be good for this team long term and lead to more shots at Super Bowl contention overall. [Reply]

If he does hold out, this is way more likely to happen than some people here think. Andy loves o-lineman who know this scheme, and he's damn sure not going to throw Geron Christian out there with no competition. The way Fish's career ended here was so lame and I would love to see him back for one last season.
If they sign him and he's playing well when Brown decides to show up, hell yeah you keep his ass on the bench or tell him he can play RT which is really where he belongs anyway. [Reply]
Bleacher Report says KC offed to make him highest paid based on 6 years. Sides could not agree on the guaranteed part. Tagged him and he will play on the tag. [Reply]

Realistically, we have no clue what we have this year at this point though.
Or maybe he'll show up completely on time and play his best football this year. [Reply]

I agree. At this point the Chiefs might be better off long term to rid themselves of him. [Reply]
Fisher has been here, he knows the system, he knows Mahomes, he can slide right in with no problems. He deserves to retire here and be in the ROH [Reply]
Well that's interesting. Sounds like we offered him a large contract with a lot of fluff. A lot of people here say they want to way to see the structure and guarantees and that's the reason why.
Brown's going to have to bet on himself and play on the tag. That'll keep his cap hit this year relatively low for us and give us another year to assess the situation.
If he plays well, we can up the guarantees to make him happy. If he doesn't perform well, we can let him walk for a comp pick and draft/sign his replacement next offseason. [Reply]

I mean they technically still have til 2pm, so you're telling me there's a chance.
Make left tackle open competition. Let OBJ play if he earns it. Tag and trade him next offseason. [Reply]
And yes, the Chiefs offered Orlando Brown Jr. a 6-year deal that was just over the average salary per year than what Trent Williams signed with the 49ers last year ($23 million).
The structure of the deal, though, was the issue for Brown.
