For all things Royals in 2022. #3 minor league system according to Baseball America. The Bobby Witt era should begin this year. Will Salvy still be the homerun king? How does the glut of infield players work out? Will the young pitchers take the next step?

Then again, I am not sure why we resigned him anyway although a one year deal is low risk I suppose.
Yeah, it's a low risk, high reward. If he performs as he is capable of while the Royals are somewhat out of the playoff hunt, they can flip him over for some good quality minor leaguers.

If he gets hurt again and is shelved for the season, then probably good time to move on.

Worst case we have those ....

3 guys that can play SS, good to very well

2 guys who can play 2B very well ( plus Massey)

2 guys that can play 3B very well ( plus a couple more )

I'm old enough to know you always build for the future and have to play the youth to develope, we have a very young team.

But I'm higher on this group of kids more than some of you here are. I do think we can compete this year as I was expecting bigger strides last year. We all know of those results, however as I said last year, it all comes down to pitching!

This years question is like last year's, Can we get some steady results from them?

It’s possible he just doesn’t consistently translate at SS in the majors. In which case you’d hope he can be a plus guy at 3B with the glove.

I just need to see him given another shot without a moron running the show.
I agree wholeheartedly.

Witt has the tools, the scouting reports stated he was potentially a plus defender.

It's now up to the Royals organization to give Witt the optimal resources through coaching, instruction and analytics to maximize his defensive talent.

This is what the great organizations do -- the Dodgers, the Rays, the Astros. They are outperforming other organizations in large part because of the way they coach players and help them maximize their natural abilities.

How would a move to 3b impact Mondesi's potential for injury? Seems like his skillset could really play well there, and at least defensively, maybe a little less wear and tear than short.

Jordan Lyles is closing in on a two-year deal with the Royals, per source.

The million dollar question is going to be whether this means we're out on Greinke. Lyles is definitely a rotation filler who has been able to give you 30 starts a year.

You get less action at 3B than at SS, so that is potentially helpful.

But you still have a lot of high-demand plays - coming in, diving left and right, etc. that stress the soft tissue/quick twitch systems. So who knows how he will react to something like that.

I think as far as injuries go, Mondesi is much more suited to the outfield than anywhere in the infield. With his speed and arm I could see him being a + defender with a better chance of staying in the lineup. He has proven too injury prone to believe he is a viable infielder. It is time to make a change and see if he can be of any value elsewhere.

Lyles has 30-plus starts in back-to-back seasons.

God, why? This dude is terrible and a 2 year deal with a 32 year old. He's not really good at anything. Has a high ERA, high WHIP, and doesn't strike many people out. What's the point?

I am hearing more and more of an argument that we are embracing the tank.

I just think if he and the org wanted him to be in the OF be would be there by now. I'd like to see him in CF myself. Bobby Witt at 3rd.
