I'm not anti-remake, I'm anti- BAD remake. If you can remake a movie and improve on it that's great. If you are able to take an old idea and give it a new (and interesting!) new spin that's fantastic.
99% of the time that isn't what we get. Almost always it's a tepid remake of a better movie that is little more than a cash grab designed to make a few bucks based on nothing more than nostalgia.
But there have to be some exceptions, right?
What are some of the remakes, reboots, and sequels that have come out in the last 20 years that you think are legitimately good? [Reply]
Legitimately good may be stretching it, but I was pleasantly surprised by the Total Recall remake. Perhaps because I was expecting total trash. [Reply]
Blade Runner 2049. Definitely not for everyone, but I loved it. Considering how long we waited for a sequel, it was much better than I expected. [Reply]
Oh, and True Grit. Thought that was also really well done, although I haven't seen the original since I was a kid and don't really remember enough about it to compare to the remake. [Reply]

I agree on True Grit, well done remake.
The Ocean's Eleven remake was ok, the two sequels and the all chick cast re-boot not so much. [Reply]

I'm a fan of this one, too. A really great sequel.
Here are some that people might like, or at least think they don't suck (tastes vary, of course)
13 assassins
Jungle Book
The Babadook
Pride and Prejudice
Emma (2009)
3:10 to Yuma
Godzilla (If you don’t like the American reboot, try the Japanese reboot) [Reply]

"Ever" is a pretty big statement. What about Carpenter's remake of The Thing From Outer Space? The '78 version of Invasion of the Bodysnatchers? Scarface (1983)? The Magnificent Seven? [Reply]
Modern sequels with a ton of time between them: Mad Max Fury Road and Bladerunner 2049 were probably my favorite movies in the years they came out. Fury Road is among the best action movies ever made. [Reply]
