The Chiefs haven't had a solid, let alone spectacular, left guard since Brian Waters retired.
Thuney will automatically improve the center and left tackle positions because he's just so freaking good, so it may not be necessary to go all in on Williams.
So I’m not as smart as some of you. But why did we pay a ton of money to a guard when we have glaring holes at 2 tackles and a center? I thought Allegreti was serviceable. [Reply]

Joe Thuney lands the largest long-term deal for a guard in NFL history. (Washington G Brandon Scherff has a $19 million number on his franchise tag.) https://t.co/igevLzOgU1
If you're an NFL team looking for an offensive lineman in free agency, here's what Joe Thuney offers: he's 28, been an All-Pro guard who has also started games at center and played offensive tackle too.
He's been called for 3 total penalties over the past two seasons. Standout.
This is a great signing. I’m just saying I really want Williams too. That would make this a HR offseason immediately.
I don't disagree but I think that the left side of the line just got a huge upgrade, so if they decided to go with Reiff or trade for Dillard, the left side will be in the best shape it's been since I can't even remember when.
New #Chiefs guard Joe Thuney’s five-year, $80 million contract includes $32.5M fully guaranteed at signing over the first two years, plus an injury guarantee that converts to full in 2022, per source. That brings the practical guarantee at signing to a whipping $48 million.
