Media Center>Guns N Roses rhythm section

Been brushing up on a bunch of Driving Wheel tunes in preperation for a festival show in August, and I slammed through some old GN'R for funsies as a 'break'...Duff, Izzy, and Steven/Matt were BADASSES.

songs I jammed on :

"Locomotive"
"Pretty Tied Up"
"My Michelle"
"You Could Be Mine"

Those tunes are the TITS, like, rhythmically and compositionally.

Axl and Slash get the glory, but it's the grunts in the back that made that machine go...

Should’ve added a little Rocket Queen. God damn, Appetite was such an amazing album. Maybe the greatest album as far as rock and roll rhythm sections go.

Love me some "Rocket Queen", especially the version from Live at the Ritz

You didn't make it as a rock band in the 80's unless you were a real musician.

Most of them are classically trained.

Nowadays producers have to bring in mercs for a bunch of albums (particularly on drums) because the actual performers can't even play their own shit properly.

Lots of great musicians then and now. Lots of garbage musicians then and now.

GnR's rhythm section was incredible, though. Really sucks how Axl treated everyone.

Especially Izzy and Matt. One guy wrote all the iconic songs Axl made his fortune singing on; the other basically saved his band when the old drummer couldn't hack the new material they were writing.

Not a fan of Frank Ferrar's drumming. At all.

It is the greatest album of all time.

I'll stab anyone that disagrees!

Mr. Brownstone has an incredible groove from Steven, Duff, Izzy, and Slash. GOAT hard rock album in my opinion.

Here is one of my favorite versions of Rocket Queen, filmed in September 1986. Notice it has a different feel from the album version, especially when you get to 3:35 and later:

It’s just not the same without Adler and Izzy, they gave that band a certain swing that’s been missing ever since
