Port cn reopen as soon as the old bridge is moved out of the channel. Any delay after that is bullshit

Would kind of like to hear a nerdy breakdown of the physics involved here. It looks like such a slow-moving boat. Like, can't I just reach out my foot and give it a little love-tap to stop it? But obviously it's basically a floating island of weight. Really makes you think how many times per day a similar ship goes under a similar bridge and everybody on the bridge has their lives in the hands of an unknown crew they will never even know existed.

Newton’s first Law of Motion. They don’t exactly have brakes that they can slam on to stop on a dime.

Some time last year I took a break from watching the First 48 murder mystery type shows before bed and watched Disasters At Sea which is like a 3 season documentary of shit going terribly wrong on big boats

Lot of these ships get sold and redesigned/repurposed with some sketchy ass engineering, but that usually just entails them sinking and not colliding with something

Will be interesting to see what comes out of this during the investigation. Just terrible timing, almost unbelievable

Wow, that sucks. I have been over that bridge at least a dozen times myself. It's bad enough it happened in the first place, but glad it didn't happen around 5:30PM.

For those who know the area, how much will the loss of this bridge impact people locally? It's gonna take years to get it replaced, and I have to imagine it's gonna cause a giant clusterfuck in the surrounding area.

Maryland governor already stating a preliminary investigation determined it was an accident

I'd imagine it should be known fairly quickly what happened due to personal interviews and data recorders unlike a sunken ship with no survivors

I'm sure there's more to it but this is what I could find at the moment.

IMPLICATIONS OF #KeyBridgeCollapse: "This is going to be catastrophic for many reasons," one resident said.
"Number one, the harbor's blocked. Number two, we're not going to get any more new car deliveries at this time. Amazon is just on the other side of the river and you can… pic.twitter.com/KNGYibLhTe

The Beltway is already a parking lot. They might have to go into a pandemic style of life when it comes to travel.

It says something about the state of discourse in our country that they felt the need to call out his political affiliation as if that's somehow relevant.
