I mostly blame Sony over Webb. With that said, I did have issues with Peter Parker's characterization (it felt like they wanted to distance themselves from Maguire's Parker so much that they tilted too far) Uncle Ben's haphazard death, and whatever they were trying to do with Peter's parents. But, that aside, Webb had major cajones to not only pursue the Gwen storyline but absolutely nail it -- even with the foreshadowing after her Dad's death (a lot did not think they'd continue that storyline after that gut-punch). Unfortunately for Webb, Sony was so desperate to compete the Avengers universe but did it (somehow worse) than DC (rushing the characters instead of building them one by one) Sony even pitching an Aunt May spinoff :-). Sony throwing in the towel with Garfield's Spidey and allowing Holland to join Marvel is one of the bigger examples of "If you can't beat em, join em" in recent memory

My only dislike was the way Tobey and Garfield were brought in (by Ned)...Strange should have done it, he's been practicing the dark magic for how long now and Ned was just able to accidently open portals because of Strange's ring?

There's some speculation they're prepping Ned to go the Hobgoblin route. Which, if so, he's primed to do so with his abilities in NWH, Strange's acknowledgement, and him no longer being attached to Peter Parker

Saw this again with my brother, and second time around there were more things that bothered me just with the writing itself.

I feel like the stakes should have been higher than his friends just not getting into college. Like have them be attacked, life in danger, being mobbed constantly, something.

Then they try to cop out with Strange saying I keep forgetting you're just a child. And then he turns around and tasks said child with apprehending supervillains from other universes?

Strange getting punked in his own dimension. Trapped in his own dimension where he's in control, by a child. Lmao.

May delivering Great Power Great Responsibility...dumb. It was a waste, because Peter already knew this, which is why he was Spider Man. He tells Stark as much when he meets him.

When you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen, they happened because of you.

Killing May fell flat. I feel like Ned should have been the one to get killed because he had the most development and strongest shown relationship with Peter. Did anyone really give a shit that May died? We barely saw her through 3 films.

Electro didn't know Peter Parker was Spider Man, and shouldn't have even been there.

The therapy session on the rooftop to calm Tom down and say May didn't die for nothing, and his anger subsides, that was a waste because as soon as he sees Norman, he's all Poor Peter, too weak to send me back to die, and he replies I just wanted to kill you myself and goes punisher mode.

Like, WHAT? What do you mean bruh? Lmao you were literally just fine and joking around and now you're an attempted murderer?

With the multiverse cracking all around them, Dr Strange is trying to argue with Peter about the world forgetting him. Lmmfao.

WHAT?

Strange has always been about the bigger picture. As if he would allow this cataclysmic event to occur, just so people don't forget Peter existed?

One person, who isn't even going to die, against the entire multiverse? There's no discussion to be had here if Strange is supposed to be taken seriously in future films.

In the end this is a great action movie with all 3 Spidermen, but under a little scrutiny is a sloppy retcon that requires a lot of mental gymnastics to not fall into the numerous holes in the story.

Fun to watch as long as you don't think too much on what is being presented.

With Peter, he doesn't have the luxury of knowing all of the potential outcomes and being who Strange is, is likely trying to think of an alternate solution -- especially because he does share culpability for Peter being in the position that he's in. Idk, I don't think it varies too much from what we've seen of Strange since "Tony. There was no other way."

That criticism about Holland still wanting to kill Goblin doesn't really make sense either, since they showed during the lab scene that he was still not down with curing him. Tobey tried to reinforce it there too but it doesn't work.

Even if you disregard that, in Holland's mind he just tried to kill someone else he loved in MJ by preventing him from saving her from certain death. Not a stretch at all for him to want to kill Goblin in that moment.

Like, in the movie's timeline May had died 12 hours before, right? Makes perfect sense that Holland, especially after Goblin re-emerged and detonated that Pumpkin Bomb - decided to go HAM just as the previous Spideys had before him

The stuff about Peter and college admissions. I work with students. That felt entirely realistic. Had a lot of talks with students that their world is not ending because they got a rejection letter from an Ivy League school. It's actually way common. Peter feeling remorse for ruining his friends dreams - friends who have supported him throughout his transition to Spider-Man, passed the smell test to me.

I do think Strange's actions there can be called to question in the trailer. Basically, Strange should have asked if he had exhausted his options first. With that said, I vastly preferred how the movie handled that sequence compared to what the trailer implied - as is so often the case with Marvel.
