Not every team can be the reining WS Champs. We have to take what we can. :-)

It was setup to have that “Pujols moment” you were seeking. Pujols chance to take the lead Hits it the hardest all night by either team 109mph, but just didn’t get any lift.

ATL looks to me to be a legit team to win it all. They are talented. National televised game. You got to see the walk off. :-)

We expect this in all sports now. Glad to see Waino pitch a good game so the factions that want baseball to play by 1925 rules cant point and say see.... it threw him off his game.

That all access was really awesome.

While I'd like to see Pujols take another lap as a part time DH against lefties, I'd REALLY be disappointed if Waino rides into the sunset. He's still just awfully damn good and such a good influence on the staff and on the team in general.

Yadi, OTOH, can just fuck right off.

Oh, and that was a HELL of a series by the Cardinals. The Braves were really on a roll and running down the Mets. And the Cardinals have played a fair number of lousy teams of late.

So going out there and getting themselves up to speed for a quality opponent while winning the series after losing the first game is REALLY impressive. And the way they won game 3 was doubly so - Helsley is their bullpen hammer and a lot of teams will slump their shoulders if he gives it up like that. Especially after they get two runners on with Goldy and Arenado up and Minter carved up both of them.

O'Neill coming up huge there is massive. He could be the pivot point that can make this a genuinely dangerous team. If he can play at that 5 WAR level he played at last season and provide a genuinely dangerous 3rd bad in the order, the Cardinals are a tough out. Especially if Noot is a legit leadoff hitter.

Still not much top end in the rotation (gonna be hard to slip past the Mets, for instance) and maybe a dynamic bullpen arm away from being playoff ready. But if Flaherty can come back healthy and maybe someone like Hudson can play up in relief, that will help cover those holes.

Pitching just scares me. Especially against the teams they're gonna have to beat.

I hate relying on Flaherty so much, especially the way that's gone, but they need him to come on quick here.

no thanks on Pujols. There is no way it can end better than this. He’s leading the NL in many categories since the All-Star break. Let’s take the win and not forced to see him looking like shit at the plate.

WTF is up with Molina? Have to see some D league championship? You come back and go 0-17? I get it’s the last year but try to focus on the last month of your career.

Can’t be with the team while rehabbing the knee was bad enough…..

I don't really care how it ends.

He's not going to 'look like shit' against lefties, though. It may take a little more time for him to get his timing in line, but he's not doing anything impressive athletically at all. It's just timing and eyesight.

He's not going to lose that overnight. He can still maintain that next season. He can still be a weapon against lefthanded pitching. Now maybe you just let that be Yepez - but I think Pujols can still do the job there.

As for Molina - he mailed it in in the winter, man. Came into camp late, out of shape and disinterested. It never got better from there.

Yadi is just mailing it in for sure right now, which surprises me. Your on the home stretch of your career and this is the best you can do? If he wanted he could hit .250 to .270, if he just admitted he has no more power and just needs to spray the ball, yet he continues to go out there flailing away like nothing has changed for him. I thought he had more pride than this for sure.

Totally agree on Waino, he can be middle rotation arm on most rosters still. Even if somehow they get deeper pitching in the off season, who wouldn't want him as 4th or 5th starter? Those guys rarely go past 5 these days and he is still good for a consistent 6 or 7.

Pujols I am torn. I think he can come back and have a spot as a PH/DH against lefties, however it was clear from the start he had the right attitude and sense of purpose driving him positively this season. I just don't seem him wanting to go through the physical grind it takes to stay sharp. I certainly won't begrudge him for a decision like that or even just wanting to make sure his last season ends positively.

I do hope he will consider some kind of mentoring role, it has been great to see his influence on the younger guys this year.

I am with you on this post.
The way that Wainwright and Pujols look they should come back for one more year. I think Wainwright will as he has not been included in the "retirement" tour stuff that Pujols and Molina have been doing.
Yadi should not have played this year. We definitely have to do something at Catcher next year that position has nothing in the pipeline.

Pujols and Waino are tough to decide on. Albert is having a career type year, and in the DH role anyone can see he could be a nice piece next year, and Wainwright is also having himself a great season. I just wouldn't want to see him fall off the cliff next season, but if he wanted to come back, I'd be happy enough about it.

I'll never have a bad thing to say about Yadi, but his effort hasn't been there this season and I'd rather have him hang them up after this season than watch him put in the kind of effort he put in this season, next season.

Crazy that I've been watching these three guys play for the Cards for almost half my life (not Albert of course, but for a large chunk anyway). They've been Cards for so long that I really feel I need to get to STL this year at some point just so I can watch them all one last time.
