Saccopoo Memorial Draft Forum>Offseason additions outside of the draft
O.city 02:16 PM 12-21-2018
Not a good thread for the lounge yet, still some season to go but thought it would be an interesting idea here.

Yeah, we have the draft and free agency but one place you can make some hay is trading picks for guys on other teams obviously. But more directly, from teams that have decided to blow up the coaching staff and front office and make system changes. So guys that maybe don't necessarily fit the new style of defense or what not.

It looks like the Cardinals and the Jets are going full on meltdown rebuild. The 9ers may fire their DC and make some changes there.

Who is everyone looking at in these situations, player wise?

One big name for me from the Jets would be Leonard Williams. High pick that's maybe underwhelmed a bit that would be a great fit here.

No. I don't want a slow, aging ILB that can't stay healthy.

No. For reasons made clear by pugs.

If the Cards drop the ball and don't re-sign Rodney Gunter, I'd like to see KC pick him up.

Okay, fair enough. I can't argue against that.

I'm beginning to wonder if Trae Waynes will hit the market. The Vikings have 19 free agents going into the 2019 offseason and a meager $11.3 million in cap space. Assuming they let S Andrew Sendejo go by not picking up his option, they'll still be looking at a shoddy $16.8 million in space. They need more cap room to sign their draft class and retain or obtain talent at other positions, especially considering SLB Anthony Barr and K Dan Bailey are on that FA list. The Vikings deepest group is at CB where they have Xavier Rhodes, Mackenzie Alexander, Mike Hughes, and Holton Hill. The team can gain the most space by cutting ties with Waynes prior to the beginning of the new league year. They would have been smart to trade him this year. Now they have to make a snap decision between Feb 4 and Mar 13 on whether or not to retain him because that salary is fully guaranteed March 13. If the Vikings do cut him before the option fully guarantees, then the Chiefs should do everything they can to sign him in my opinion. He's been a lot stronger player the past 2 seasons than he was his first couple.

Wow! Didn’t realize how well the Vikings are stacked at corner.
I’d love for the Chiefs to pursue Waynes if he becomes available.

They are absolutely going to let Barr walk in FA and Bailey has been eh. I don't see them letting him go at all.

Jags are gonna have to release or trade some of that defense. That wouldn’t be the worst place to find some talent

KJ Wright would be a great addition provided this team goes back to 4-3...

Malik Jackson, Darius or either corner would be nice additions, but the crown jewel would have to be Myles Jack.

I wonder if they would trade him.

I'd think the crown jewel would be the best corner in the league, but Jack is good.

Everyone wants Earl Thomas, but with as much versatility as we ask our safeties to have, I'd rather have Mathieu.

What about DeSean Jackson? Has the history with Andy Reid, would be an upgrade over Conley. Not sure what his contract is or what it would take to get him maybe a 4th? Just thinking he may want to move on after the coaching change in Tampa.

One year left on his contract and would cost $10m. No thanks.

We'd better get really good at drafting because once MVPatty gets paid, we're going to have to have significant contributions from guys on rookie contracts.

They certainly need to be good if not really good. The issue with a team like Green Bay is they’ve been flat out bad in the draft for a long stretch up until 2018.

It’s when you stack up bad drafts over and over that you find yourself severely underachieving despite having one of the greater QBs you could ever have.
