Media Center>Which Great Movie Do You Actually Hate?
Frazod 04:55 PM 02-21-2019
This video popped up on my YouTube feed. Seemed like a good basis for a thread.

The five films discussed in the video, panned by various Brits to the general disdain of other Brits off camera, are The Shining, Forrest Gump, the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Gone With the Wind and The Blair Witch Project.

I think the first three guys are mostly nuts, wholeheartedly agree regarding GWTW, and argue that Blair Witch was never great in the first place.

So what great movie(s) do you hate? I'll chime my picks in later.

Avatar - I don't get people's obsession with this film. It was rehashed garbage albeit visually appealing.

Titanic - A movie about a 90 year old telling people about the time she banged a poor boy and then let him die because she couldn't scoot over then throws a piece of jewelry overboard.

All Disney Live Remakes - Disney can fuck off, specifically, for Christopher Walken as King Louie and Will Smith as Genie. That aside, all these live adaptation lack the magic that the original animations have.

Magnolia - Hated every minute of this movie... particularly the final hour.

Natural Born Killers...****ing depressing and just horrible. I have a visceral hatred of that movie.

Manchester by the Sea...wife insisted, we watched it on some streaming service thank God. She liked it, I loathed that depressing piece of shit.

The Big Lebowski...I just don't get it, and don't care to.

Godfather III...that movie is so bad it makes me angry.

Friday... Apparently I'm too white for that movie, but I literally smirked once...it was just plain stupid and not funny at all.

I'm sure there are a ton more, but those stick out.

Most of mine have been mentioned already - Fight Club, The Big Lebowski, Fargo, Thin Red Line and No Country For Old Men.

I'll throw out one that I constantly see mentioned as an all time greatest: Once Upon A Time In The West. What a terrible fucking movie.

It's got so many classic lines and memorable characters.

I've always liked that it was basically just a movie about the main cast chilling all day. There's a semi-interesting subplot but generally they're just hanging around all day, bullshitting. Reminds me of a 'hood version of Dayzed and Confused.

I'm trying my best to up vote anyone who mentioned The Big Lebowski.

Already listed but will reiterate (I don't hate many movies but these three, yeah, much dislike):

Thin Red Line (boring ass war movie with no war; bunch of emo bundle of stickss walking around in wheat fields...ooh, much anti-war, very art, wow)

Signs (fucking reeruned. Aliens that can jump over buildings but can't kick in doors? Water kills them, so they invade a water planet? gtfo) - not sure if this one really fits the description anyway; do people consider this turd "great"?

Independence Day (hack movie made by hack director populated with hacktors speaking whack dialogue and 'splosions! Michael Bay reerunation level 100 from Roland Emmerich...same guys vomited out an absolute shit Godzilla flick)

A couple I hate that I have not seen mentioned:

Armageddon (extended sappy music video; worse, the video is for a shit band that spews out sappy garbage intended for people with shit taste in music. Stupid, sappy, heavy-handed, dumb)

Gravity (ho-leee shit was this fucking reeruned. Do you even science, bro? Do astronauts need exposition on perils of space from a doctor? wtf. Everything is wrong with this one. Typical hollywood garbage written and directed, starring drug-addled fucktards. Cool effects; again, typical holywood: looks nice, but shallow, hollow, and devoid of intelligence)

I just want to mention that one of the dumbest, worst movies I've ever seen was The Gambler with Mark Wahlberg.

It got good reviews and a bunch of people said the flick was awesome.

But it's so sloppily written. Hated it.

Forrest Gump got a few votes and I think it's maybe a bit unfair (if still accurate).

That movie just aged really poorly. You look at that movie just blasting Pulp Fiction and Shawshank at the Academy Awards and just ask yourself 'how'?

And the one guy who probably DID deserve an award for his performance, Gary Sinise, lost on a 'veterans vote' to Martin Landau. Wyatt Earp and Legends of the Fall are historical afterthoughts and both aged significantly better than Forrest Gump did. Hell, Hoop Dreams is a more enjoyable movie.

Try to watch Forrest Gump now and it's just an interminable slog of a film.

And I would be remiss if I didn't mention "the most streamed film in history" - Red Notice.

Yes, this is tongue in cheek. Everyone knows that movie is dogshit.

im wondering if some of this comes from the current day where when a film is on TBS, for example, a 2 hour movie becomes 4 hours due to having commercials every 15 minutes.

Casino, I swear, is about 5 hours when played on TBS or similar network.

That said, I had a huge beef with Forrest Gump.......and it's with the girl.

"hey, I dont love you cause you're a tard......hey, I just traveled the country and banged a 100 dudes, and now that I have aids, and no chance at a future, I guess I can throw you a bone and sleep with you and you can take care of me while I'm super ill.....as none of the 100 dudes I boned will".

I’m not sure if this movie is really considered great, but if you’re a certain age you’re supposed to think Boondock Saints is awesome. What a dogshit movie.

Edit: just looked it up to see it has a 28% Rotten Tomatoes score, so I’m clearly not alone in my thinking. Doesn’t change the fact that almost every Gen X dude I know would nearly ejaculate when talking about that movie.

She was just broken. Falling for broken women rarely ends well. Trust me on that one. :-)

Also, she clearly got her shit together and had done her best to become a responsible mother for several years. The apartment they lived in was decent and clean, and the kid was well-mannered. I think she reached out to Forrest mainly out of concern for the kid's well-being once she realized she was dying.

I've only watched it once, and remember enjoying it. I'm definitely gen-x.

Might have to watch it again to see how it holds up.

It's considered a cult classic, not a "great".

But it fucking rocks. The sequel sucked ass though.
