Nzoner's Game Room>Macro view: Remember, this is technically a rebuild year...
Dante84 10:20 AM 09-26-2022
I know that's a dirty phrase to utter, but it's important to keep things in perspective here.

We *barely* lost the game, and unfortunately there were some critical rookie mistakes, horrendous misses from an off-the-street kicker. We also had Gay & McDuffie out. A very weak personal foul call was a fatal blow. It sucks, but sometimes it be that way.

Looking ahead
Taking a big-picture view, we have one of the strongest rosters in the league, one of the youngest rosters in the league, with the best QB in the league, and multiple key starters locked up for at least the next 2 years. We also have a top-2 coach in the league, with a top-5 GM in the league armed with a talent evaluation staff that is top-notch. Our medical and training staff is among the best in the league as well.

We will have more than par picks next year. We have no reason to believe that our young defensive players will not continue to ascend, similar to Gay/Bolton. We should have cash to spend next year as well, should we choose to.

While we should absolutely be competing for a Super Bowl every year that we have Mahomes, and we likely will this year, it's crazy to think that we are this good and well set up for the future on a year where we are overhauling our entire receiving corps and have a fresh-out-the-womb defense.

We are going to rip butts wide open for the next 3-5 years if we see this thing through, and likely get a few rings because of it. Games like yesterday are part of the growth, as grumpy as that makes us on a week-to-week level.

Update - 2/15/23

Brett Veach lifts up the Lombardi Trophy, as he says, "This is what a rebuilding year looks like in Kansas City."

It's hilarious the media and people go down these rabbit holes every single year and others have to say the same old Captain Obvious things about how none of it matters at this point.

Just hang out and wait for the Chiefs/Bills playoff game in January.
That's because ESPN is more concerned with race and only covering football/basketball. They never discuss soccer, hockey, baseball, or any other global sport. If you spend 24/7 covering two sports, you'll eventually run out of topics to discuss. Thus, you make up topics in those sports.

This team should never have to pull a desperate play like a fake field goal. We have too much talent on our offensive side of the ball.

The Kansas City Chiefs are the #1 professional football team of all times imho

One ugly loss and they're now rebuilding? That's quite the take.

While that is pretty exteme, a 1000' view looks like were in a soft rebuild imo. Finding a new defensive identity and the WR room being overhauled.

The chiefs always do dumb shit to lose games every damn year. That was it yesterday. It will happen again at some point, let’s hope it’s not until next season

They seem to play down to the competition at the most opportune times

That's every team in sports and especially in the NFL.

There are always 2-3 games teams lose in spite of having no real reason to lose. We just got out first one out of the way early this year.

this team is 3-0 if mahomes and kelce are their usual selves

kickers be damned
special teams be damned
running game be damned

this team lives and fucking dies with the former, not the latter

mahomes and kelce will get their shit right

Agreed. You don't rebuild during Pat's Prime years - you reload. We had a bad game yesterday - especially ST's. Shit happens and you move on. There's no need in making excuses about, "oh well, it's a rebuilding year anyway...". That's nonsense.

This was a reloading year on offense and defense. We changed offensive philosophy and loaded the defense with young guys.

Here’s why you should be encouraged: the last 2 draft classes have afforded KC some legit leverage money wise.

Bolton
Creed
Smith
Karlaftis
Watson
McDuffie (we’ll see. Loved his tape in AZ)

All these guys are cheap. We’ll have $35 million after cutting Frank. I think they’ll do a short extension for Chris Jones to lower that $27 million cap hit. And Mahomes can theoretically use the restructure to lower his cap hits. Especially if Brown Jr is let go/traded.

We will have a ton of money for FA and 12 draft picks next Spring. That is a quick solution to building the roster

There's nothing wrong with taking a year or two during Mahomes prime to rebuild.

If you think the Chiefs are going to win the SB every year of Mahome's prime you are delusional.

DT needs more bodies.

Runningback room is a mess.

Cornerbacks look strong, linebackers could be great, safety is fine if we sign Thornhill. Interior OL is top notch and Mahomes is a top NFL QB with the right tools.

This is far from the strongest roster in the NFL. This roster is pop warner compared to Buffalo. Buffalo has a highly paid QB but has still managed to surround him with talent and a well built team. Brandon Beane is lapping Brett Veach at team building.

Agreed that this is a rebuild, but we’re look at a 2-3 year rebuild if most of the draft picks are hits.

Kelce will be 34 next year.
OMG THE SKY IS LITERALLY FALLING

God damn you're one stupid cunt. The Jags went from the leagues worst to a playoff caliber team in one offseason, but the Chiefs, who are still a contender TODAY, are 2-3 years away!

:-) what a buttfucking moron

You should probably stop posting about Buffalo dude. Josh Allen’s cap hit is $16 million. He’s the 13th highest paid QB this year.

They are playing their last year under a rookie contract.

They’ll be in trouble next year when their 5 starters are gone bc they paid a shit ton of $$$ to Allen, Von and Diggs.

And did I mention their elite safety’s neck is ****ed so he may be done? Buffalo is in their last year.

Everything changes for them next year
