Nzoner's Game Room>Why Frank Clark is a problem for the Kansas City Chiefs
Direckshun 08:48 AM 05-18-2021
Yikes:

Summary of the video's arguments -- some of which are argued better than others:

1. Never fully healthy.
2. This chart:

3. We ranked in the bottom 3rd in 2020 in passrush despite dropping major coin along the DL.
4. 6 sacks in 2020 -- there was a 7 game stretch where he had 1, and 2 sacks in the last 10 weeks of the season.
5. He doesn't change the run defense all that much.
6. 2020 postseason was "pedestrian" -- 9.8% pressure rate.
7. All of this despite being slotted next to Chris Jones.
8. As you can see in the above chart, Clark is rarely double teamed.
9. The Chiefs didn't restructure Clark this offseason, because they don't want to make it harder than it needs to be to cut him after 2021 -- saves $13m.
10. 2021 is a make-or-break year for Clark.

The good news is that Jarran Reed, like Chris Jones, is a beast in "sacks created," which should help our edge rush.

I believe Frank Clark will improve by having Jarran Reed beside him. Chiefs could also improve more by an upgrade at the LDE.
But if you can't win one on one more than he has, it doesn't matter who you have next to you. It isn't like they are chipping him or anything special to game plan for him. I'm pretty sure I saw him in games this year where he went against the backup tackles and still didn't do anything one on one.

Who are we taking? Even with hindsight there weren't many other options there for the Chiefs who desperately needed a pass rusher

Frank Clark was the right move at the time and needed to be done. This team/defense needed a significant attitude change. He helped that a LOT. And then balled out in the playoffs on the Super Bowl run. And then he was done . . . . .

Thanks, Frank. We'll never forget you for 2019-2020. But your ass is getting cut after this season . . . . probably a post June 1 designation.

Enjoy the rest of your career and the money you earn somewhere else.

In hindsight, the Chiefs probably should’ve used the day 2 pick they traded with 29 to move up and take Sweat.

But we have no idea how they felt about the medicals, so it’s easy to say that now.

I think we could’ve signed Zadarius Smith cheaper and kept the picks. He’s had 26 sacks over the last 2 years. His salary is pretty reasonable too.

Hindsight is 20/20 though. And no, I wasn’t advocating to sign him at the time.

I had thought before that frank clark was underproducing but assumed if we got rid of him there'd be a gaping hole. Turns out the difference between him and 2nd teamers is small :-)

I think not playing football is a factor to consider when these bozos get mad because of someone getting paid a lot of money.

If Brendan Daly and Spags grade him out as doing his job, then Frank Clark is doing his job.

It might be useful to review film and make a case that a player is not grading well. But that video is 20 minutes of somebody that does not know football trying to justify his prejudging a situation with nonsense that does not say whether the player is playing his assignments.

Ok...what's the opinion of those who have played football? Did frank clark make any impact last year according to them?

Frank Clark is not a problem for the Chiefs. The only problem for the Chiefs is an Andy Reid heart attack or an injury to The Franchise. Everyone around those two are now ancillary. Now that you guys are over the hump and into greatness, you need to remember to think like Bill Belichick: do not overpay for aging stars, better to let them go a year too early than overpay to keep them a year too late, and just make sure you keep The Franchise upright.

He was selected to the Pro Bowl each year in KC. Considering how much fans hate a non-QB that gets paid a lot of money. It is safe to assume that Frank Clark made it because of the votes of NFL players and NFL coaches and not the fans vote.

If you’re judging a player on making the pro bowl then I suppose Mitch Schwartz was never that great of a right tackle...

The same people that did the Pass Rushing Edge Chart above (ESPN), also write that Mike Remmers was top 10 as a pass blocking OT. Also Remmers was number 6 in rating as a run blocking OT.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...-rate-rankings

Mike did a good job most of the time in filling in, but he is not an elite OT.

No Joe Thuney or Orlando Brown on any of those lists but Austin Reiter is on there.

Veach is an idiot!

The people that do these rating lists have no idea how to rate offensive linemen at all. Matter of fact their ability to judge line play in general is terrible
