Nzoner's Game Room>Tee Higgins Wants "Outrageous" Bag
Pitt Gorilla 11:28 PM 02-03-2023

Report: Bengals WR Tee Higgins "could be traded" for a top draft pick if the team can't reach an extension with him and the money he's asking for is "outrageous", per @TheAtlantic

When I read the title, I thought "What kind of a bag does he want? Diamond covered or golden?". My bad.

But back to the discussion. The Bengals aren't stupid enough to value a WR over a QB, so I'd keep him next year and let him walk. You could trade him to a WR needy team with enough 2024 cap space, but that team would also have to have an above average QB to make sense.

They will probably get more if they trade him this year. Whatever team acquired would have a year to work on a contract, two if they franchise him. Can’t see a team giving up as much next year knowing they have to pay him top dollar.

Who gives a shit. The Chiefs aren't trading for him and signing him.
Veach had his chance to have this kid and took Clyde.
He's gonna break someone's bank when he does get paid, and I doubt it'll be this year.

If Chiefs can have Mahomes, Kelce, Thuney, Jones, Brown and Clark paid what they are paid, Bengals can afford to pay Higgins, Chase and Burrow.

Bengals should keep them and pay them all, and the talk about it being impossible is fans of other teams rooting against them out of fear or speculative schadenfreude.
Mahomes makes less than the market dictates while having a lot of flexibility, Kelce is underpaid and has been for quite a while, Brown is playing on the tag and Clark restructured. That’s how KC could pay all of them. Plus they drafted very well and as such they could walk on a lot of talent vs paying them.

Now can the Bengals afford Burrow, Chase, and Higgins? Sure. But to make it work all three have to take more team friendly deals which I am not so sure Higgins or Chase will. Burrow has made it seem like he might, but until he does that can’t be banked on. So while they could keep all three they will have to sacrifice talent elsewhere as it’s hard to compete paying your QB top 5 money and paying two WRs #1 WR money.

Bungles front office better start focusing on their drafting skills.
Chiefs got a 1st for Hill. The Bengals will get a 1st for Higgins if they traded him this offseason.

That and having one of the greatest defensive minds of all time coaching them. KC would need to be the anti-Patriots in that respect.

Sources: Bengals Hope to Sign Tee Higgins to Extension, Have No Intention of Trading Him

The 24-year-old has topped 1,000 receiving yards in back-to-back seasons.

CINCINNATI — There have been some rumblings about the possibility of the Bengals trading star wide receiver Tee Higgins this offseason.

Those outside of the organization wonder how they're going to pay Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase and Higgins long-term.

Despite internet speculation, the Bengals are focused on keeping the trio together, league sources tell All Bengals.

Both Joe Burrow and Higgins are eligible for contract extensions this offseason.

While Burrow is the focus, the organization has every intention of making a push to sign Higgins to a long-term contract before the start of the 2023 season.

The 24-year-old wide receiver has topped the 1,000-yard mark in each of the past two seasons, compiling 148 receptions for 2,120 yards and 13 touchdowns over that span.

The idea of trading him for future assets may make sense to some outside of the organization, but multiple sources laughed at the idea of Higgins playing anywhere else but Cincinnati in 2023.

He has one year left on his rookie contract and is set to make nearly $4 million next season, which makes him one of the best bargains in the NFL.

Trading him doesn't make sense for a team hoping to win a Super Bowl next season, regardless of how contract talks go this offseason.

"We’re going to need room for our quarterback, for our receivers and for some other people who are going to want to get paid at the top level, too," Bengals owner and president Mike Brown said in August. "We see the train coming [with Burrow]. Right with him are going to be the receivers [Higgins and Chase] pretty soon. They’re critical. And we have others that we like a lot and want to keep. I hope we can. We’re trying our best to keep the guys that we think are the very best players that we have."

Some fan bases may want their favorite team to trade for Higgins, but all signs point to him being a member of the Bengals next season.

Miami had a very specific set of circumstances. Maybe another team will. Time will tell, but sources say the Bungles aren't trading him.

You know, if anything those words from Mike Brown make me think Higgins is gone. He said:

I hope we can. We’re trying our best to keep the guys....

That doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement to me. Of course they wanna make seem like everyone is coming back. They don't wanna piss off the fans and they wanna make sure other GMs know to come with real offers.

I think Higgins being gone odds went up after reading that. Pats, Bears, Giants and Texans all have huge need for a #1 WR and have a lot of cap room.

I thought they would have him for 1 more year, but it wouldn't surprise at all to see him moved by the draft. They'll get at least a 1st for him.

Anything is possible. But if his $$$ demands are true, the combination of giving up a huge salary and high draft pick(s) is going to narrow the field of potential trade partners dramatically. Can we still blame the WR market on the Faiders and Adams? :-)

I don't see how you get away with Burrow making 50+ million, Chase 30+ million, and Higgins 20+ million without the roster taking a huge step backwards.

We win either way. They blow up their defense to keep the offense in tact or weaken the offense to keep the defense bolstered. I hope they keep a top qb and 2 top wr on massive deals. Reid and mahomes will just outscore them.

Yeah but he's still better than anyone in this draft. If you're the Pats and have bum Mac Jones throwing to scrubs. Eith all of Krafts money you don't make a move? Plus an rabid fanbase that isn't used to being terrible....why wouldn't you ship your first to the Bengals? Higgins would be the best player they had at WR since prime Randy Moss.

Giants need some help, though after that Kenny Golladay disaster they might be a little gun shy on FA WRs. Bears and Texans need help everywhere.
