We all have varying opinions about the impact of this, the numbers, etc. We will all never agree with each other. But we can all keep it civil.

Thanks!

Wife and Son tested positive for covid this week. After two tests over the last 4 days, I am still negative. Why is this? Both of them have symptoms. We aren’t social distancing etc. no vax. Is it because I already had covid?

It's certainly possible. Just like the vaccines, the level of protection from previous infection varies, but it definitely doesn't hurt. Are you saying you actually had a confirmed case before, or are you wondering if you had it and didn't know it?

Beyond that, viruses are just weird, so it's possible your immune system could have fought it off even without previous infection.

If you have natural immunity, you are likely well protected, better than the vaccine. I would make sure they are getting Vitamin D and sunlight.

If you've had covid, you've got some immunity. It's also a bit early. Could go longer.

A now retracted study from Israel showed natural immunity had slightly better protection than the vaccines.

Natural immunity does offer very good protection for around 85% of people who recover from COVID.

Why was it retracted?

It's likely true that in the case of vax immunity, which is limited ONLY to spike protein, antibody level will make a difference in protection.

BUT, natural immunity is highly likely to be far more robust, bc it is a more diverse antigenic response.

Yes, I had tested positive before. It’s been nearly 6 months. I had very minor symptoms. Wife and I at the time were on separate work schedules so it worked out we didn’t see each other for a week or so much at all.

This time though, we’ve been inseparable for a week while she’s had it. Sleeping in same bed, both off work, holding hands, snuggling in couch, etc. She has very mild symptoms (runny nose, slight cough, loss of taste and smell) son has drainage issues, slight cough and had a 101.3 temp last night.

If you have had Covid, you're fine.

Yep. While it's not a 100% guarantee, having a previous infection seems to be roughly on par with being vaccinated from what I can tell, though the data's still pretty fuzzy.

Not sure. I had it bookmarked, and when I went back to read it again, the site said it had been retracted.
