Nzoner's Game Room>Orlando Brown Projected Contract 6 year $145 mil
dlphg9 08:17 PM 03-28-2022
So there's an article on NFL network saying that Orlando Brown is expected to sign for 6 years $145 mil.

That comes to $24.16 mil/yr and makes him the highest paid offensive lineman in football. It also would give him the 19th highest salary per year in the NFL

How would you feel if that is the contract he ended up signing?

I'm fine with it. He is a top 5 LT and he's only 26 next season. A young great LT is a guy you can't let leave.

First sack is on Remmers. If he doesn't get his shit pushed in and does what OBJ does, then Mahomes steps up into the pocket and it never happens.

Second sack Mahomes is like 11 yards deep.

He was decent, but he looked way worse because Alex Smith had no clue how to navigate a pocket. Alexsexuals would always whine that Smith needed a better line and that Fisher was awful.

:-)... Watch the Cincinnati game again when Thuney played LT... He nearly got Mahomes killed and picked...

This is a perfect example of how someone will absolutely ignore the obvious, when it's stairing them right in the face, in order to prove their point, no matter how wrong it is. I don't know what to tell you but you're not going to see a LT get beat worse than OBJ did. If you can't see that it's only because you don't want to. Sure Remmers was ass, but OBJ was worse.

OBJ was even worse than ass on the Garret sack.

IMO, we should try and sign OBJ but not at a price that makes him the highest paid LT in football.

Bottom line is real simple. Is Brown the best LT in the league? No. Is he top 10? No. Then don't pay him like he's the best.

He held the ball forever. He was fine in the pocket but you can't hang out there with the football for an hour...

It isn't that simple.

First, the highest paid guy at any one position is generally not the best player at that position. It's whichever top 5-10 guy at the position got paid most recently.

Second, there is a lot of leeway in "highest paid" at a position.

If Brown's deal technically makes him the highest AAV/highest paid T because it has a $50M cap hit in year 5 or 6 of the deal that balloons the overall value, that's cool and all. But AAV is meaningless. Guaranteed money and year 1-4 cap hits are what matter with him.

The highest paid guy at any one position can usually make the case that they're elite though.

Which position has a decidedly non-elite player as the highest paid in recent years and it worked out for the team?

Why do you all waste your time arguing football with King?

The guy has proven time and time again that he has absolutely no clue what he’s talking about.

Look at the company he has on his side in this discussion. TEX and Red Dawg. Yeesh.

You think so? I think you should show them how it's done. Stop replying to me or making posts about me. I know it's hard and I do enjoy not having to pay rent, but you can do it.

OBJ can seriously go kick rocks somewhere else....he is trying to hold Verch hostage

Funny that the same people that constantly push for early picks to go to OL every year are the same ones saying we shouldn’t re-sign Orlando Brown. Some of “those people” have even suggested cutting him.

Crazy town.

Laremy Tunsil comes to mind as a recent player at this position.

There are a handful of QBs who have been “highest paid” despite being merely “good” at the position.

QB, LT, pass rusher… are positions where when you have a really good player who maybe isn’t actually elite, you still may be giving them top-of-position money when it comes time to re-sign them.

Look, the Chiefs are gonna PAY OBJr. and it will likely be very handsomely but they will do it in a way that makes the deal very cap friendly for the team going forward.

If OBJr. really was asking for something outlandish and NOT willing to work with the confines listed above, the Chiefs can always pivot to having him play on the franchise tag this year and try again next year or simply trade him next off-season for more draft capital.

My gut tells me they get a deal done and it’ll be something that works for the team and the cap going forward regardless of whether he ends up with the highest AAV for tackles or not.

We’ll be fine.
