Nzoner's Game Room>Chiefs hire Steve Spagnuolo as new defensive coordinator
TLO 04:33 PM 01-24-2019

The #Chiefs are hiring Steve Spagnuolo as their new defensive coordinator, sources say. The former #Giants DC and interim HC/#Rams HC began his NFL coaching career as an #Eagles assistant under Andy Reid. Now rejoins Big Red in KC.

Clark injured.

Jarran Reed looked like he was going through motions, not anymore.

Added Melvin Ingram.

And with all those guys playing well it trickles down to our wave DL guys like Wharton, Nnadi, etc.
Plus Gay came back from his toe injury.

Gotta be a near-historic turnaround.

Thursday Will be a big Test for them. If they hold the chargers under 21 then this defense is elite.

They have been playing really well but the quality of teams and QBs (with out their best receivers) they have faced the last 6 games have been meh. That's ok I am glad to see the domination that is what they should be doing. I just want to see what they do vs a good QB.

We shall see!

I just want to see this DL create problems for Herbert. He had way too much time last meeting and there was little to no pressure on him.

Get after the QB and make him make some mistakes.

I have no clue what has ignited this insane spark in these guys asses, but it sure is fun to watch.
This defense was built to play with a lead, they have had on for the past several weeks which helps as well.

We completely destroyed a Raiders offense that put 33 on Dallas.

We completely destroyed a Broncos offense that put 38 on Detroit.

We completed destroyed a Redskins offense that put 27 and 29 on Tampa Bay and Carolina.

Credit is due.

I'm giving them credit. I'm just discussing the prospect of them facing a good qb with his weapons this week. Will the trend continue.

I mean Carr was top 5 in passing coming into the game yesterday.

It's folly to discount the two performances the Chiefs D forced him into.

He is, by definition, a "good QB."

Hence the other part of my post about not having their receivers. They lost ruggs obviously and Waller was out.

Again their D has been really good and I'm happy about it. Just Thursday will be a huge test.

To deny that is folly.

The Chiefs pressured Derek Carr on 45% of his dropbacks yesterday, per PFF. Chris Jones (10) and Frank Clark (8) combined for 18 (!!) pressures.

Since Week 8, Jones leads the NFL in pressures (39) while Clark ranks fifth (28). Pretty good!

39 pressures in, like 6 weeks, is absolutely asinine.

The NFL is full of athletic, smart, 300-lb monsters that play offensive line.

And Chris Jones is cutting through them like a warm knife through butter.

How is he doing this?

The #Chiefs defense is the first team since the 2014 Seattle Seahawks to allow fewer than 10 points four times in a five-game span.

this is awesome

The @Chiefs DC Spaga has just made it hard to run the ball on them on 1st down with all these run stunts. Multitudes of them keeping offenses unbalanced @ArrowheadPride pic.twitter.com/8S6aDyYm3t

Can we call him Spaga from now on?

Melvin needs his revenge. He could be big in this game since he knows them extremely well.
