What's is CP's obsession with not paying elite players?

Not necessary if you trade OBJ. If you cut Frank, there's another 20M.

Chris Jones' impact at his position is just so damb valuable.

Tyreek's value was replaced by solid mid-tier guys ONLY because we have Mahomes at QB and Reid calling plays. Mahomes elevates their level of play so much so that you can get away with not having Tyreek.

But the same is not the case on Defense. Chris Jones IS THE GUY that elevates everyone else on the defensive side of the ball. He's the anchor, the centerpiece that you build around.

I simply do not see how you can replace him with 3-4 mid-tier guys and get the same value.

KC never achieved ANY playoff success with those two on the roster, so a little apples to oranges comparison there. Yes, those contracts were mistakes. But it wasn’t so much about the contracts themselves but the timing of those two contracts. They waited a year too late on Justin Houston and Eric Berry probably should have not been given another contract, but they would have looked like heels with the whole cancer thing. They just waited a year too long on him too.

A Chris Jones extension would not be a mistake. He has shown up big time in two Super Bowl runs: 2019 and this one. It’s no coincidence his play in 2019 was a BIG part of the 4th quarter comeback against the Niners. His play last night is probably the biggest reason we are in our 3rd Super Bowl in 4 years.

Give the man the bag. He’s earned it. Just make sure there’s a couple voidable years at the end so you’re not locked into more than 3 years on an extension and we’re good. Cut Clark and move on from OBJ and you’re still good to lock up Sneed and one of the LBer’s (Gay or Bolton) long term.

Make it happen, Vartch.

Same as it would have cost.

It took a special sort of stupid to believe that Jones wasn't playing well in the post-season prior to Sunday.

Jones and his agent weren't that stupid, nor is Veach.

His market was always going to be a 're-set' sort of contract if he wanted it. He was already playing at a hall of fame level.

Most definitely.

On the Herd today Sean Payton compared Jones last night to Jefferson in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. :-)

Guys' bodies breaking down isn't really anyone's fault.

Jones is the type of player, like an elite QB or LT, that should never hit free agency.

I do hope they can extend Jones. But, yea, isn't guys bodies breaking down one of the reasons to 'get rid of'/trade guys a year or two early than a year or two late?

Two or three good players probably won't replace a healthy Jones, but at least you aren't putting all your eggs in one basket as far as injuries/health...

Pay not an issue. Hamstring the roster because of one guy is an issue.
