Saccopoo Memorial Draft Forum>Compensatory Pick Projections Update

I've been tracking this, and before the regular season ended, OverTheCap was projecting the Chiefs to end up with three compensatory picks, all of them 7ths, which -- alongside the Rashad Fenton 7th -- would give the Chiefs five seventh round picks:

3.

4 (Hill).
5.
6.
7.
7 (Pringle).
7 (Reed).
7 (Hughes).
7 (Fenton).
But OverTheCap has updated their projections, and the picture's improved.

Byron Pringle and Jarran Reed have earned the Chiefs 6th rounders, according to these projections. Mike Hughes is projected to remain a 7th.

So:

Thanks for the update.

It will be a great thing if KC gets 6ths instead of 7ths for Pringle and Reed. You're talking about 40 spots in draft position.

The value there is that you can move one with your 5th to get up about 10 slots if you want. You can probably package the 6th, comp 6th, and a 7th and get in that 185-190 range. It creates options far more than the bottom of the 7th round does.

It also has a bit more value from a potential perspective.

S Donovan Wilson, ER James Houston, RB Khalil Herbert, and OG Trey Smith were all recent comp 6ths.

I'm hoping EB finds a HC job and we get a 3rd for him as well!

All 3 of those 6s combined miiiiiiight get you into the back of the 5th. Combine that 5 with our other 5 and you can get into the back of the 4th.

Suddenly we're sitting with 3 picks from 123-132 and hell, those 3 picks can probably get you into the back of the 3rd.

Veach would never do that because he doesn't like going that long without a selection, but the Chiefs could theoretically turn some of that late round capital into a top 100 pick if they worked the phones hard enough.

So at that point you end up with 4 picks in the first 100 and then 3 wild card 'priority UDFA' style picks in the 7th.

There are definitely worse places to find yourself...

Holy shit, man.

According to that, we're looking at 12 picks, and that doesn't even account for if EB gets a HC gig, landing us another 3rd (which might knock out a 7th, depending on how many of the 32 comps are left by that time).

If Veach & Co. can replicate what they did this year, we can really turn this roster into a fucking machine. It's so young, and already top 5 in the league.

I imagine Brett will start slanging those late rounders into mid-rounders to target specific dudes - RT's, IDL's, S's, etc...

None of the minority hires effected comp picks last year, just FYI.

I know we will never keep 12 picks, but damn!! 12 picks with an arguably stacked roster!? This is great!!

Nick Corte from OvertheCap.com has released his comp projections. He has us with two 6ths for Pringle and Reed. And a 7th for Hughes.
