Fantasy/CasinoPlanet>Alternate Reality Game 1: Chiefs
Rain Man 12:15 AM 03-22-2009
The original post is below in blue, but let's summarize it here based on the past few years.

1. If you're a new player, start with the current Chiefs roster. If you've been playing for a while you'll have your own evolved roster.

2. You can add any free agent that the Chiefs add.

3. You lose any free agent that the Chiefs lose, but only if they were on the Chiefs' roster when you began playing.

4. You can accept or reject any trade the Chiefs make as long as any Chiefs player involved is currently on your roster.

5. You do not get players that the Chiefs draft. You draft your own players, using the same draft picks that the Chiefs have.

6. You can trade down ONE time before the draft or after the draft. If you trade down before the draft, you get up to full value for your pick according to this chart: https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-V...-Rich-Hill.asp. (Note: this chart was updated in 2022.) If you trade down after the draft, the value of the picks you trade must be discounted by at least 25 percent. Any trade down must involve only the picks of one NFL team, and you cannot receive more than two picks more than you give up. (In other words, if you trade away one draft pick you cannot pick up more than three in return.) The other team's picks also must be picks that they held prior to the opening of the draft. See the examples at the bottom of the post.

6. You can trade up ONE time before the draft or after the draft. If you trade up before the draft, you get up to full value for your pick according to this chart: https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-V...-Rich-Hill.asp. (Note: this chart was updated in 2022.). If you trade up after the draft, the value of the picks you trade must be discounted by at least 15 percent. Any trade up must involve only the picks of one NFL team. The other team's picks also must be picks that they held prior to the opening of the draft.

7. By the beginning of the season, you must reduce your total roster to include only 53 players.

Original post: You can ignore this now.

Spoiler!

Added Rules and Reminders:

1. Remember that you can draft undrafted rookies, so you don't have to select only guys who were drafted.

2. Anyone can change their rookie draft selections at any time, UNTIL we reach ten days before training camp. At that point, all picks will be locked in.

3. Each team can do ONE trade of draft picks if they like, using this chart:http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...t-trade-chart/. However, if you're trading up, you have to pay 15 percent more than the stated value of the picks you're obtaining. If you're trading down, your pick's value will be discounted by 25 percent.

For example, if you want to trade up from the 20th pick in the 1st to the 10th pick, you can see from the chart that the 20th pick is worth 259 points. The 10th pick is normally 369 points, but by paying 15 percent more, it will cost you 1.15*369, or 424 points. So you would need to come up with another 165 points to make the deal (424-259)

For example, if you want to trade down from the 20th pick in the 1st and pick up the 10th pick in the 2nd, your 20th pick would normally be worth 259 points, but in this game it will be worth 25 percent less, or 194 points. The 10th pick in the 2nd is worth 142 points, so you can get 52 points back from the other team. (Remember that you cannot pick up more than two extra picks in the trade, so consider your math carefully.)

You can do only ONE draft-pick trade up and ONE draft-pick trade down, and in each case you can only trade with one other team for their own picks. (In other words, you couldn't take the 52 points in the above example from a third team.)

With Russell Wilson starting and Geno Smith backing him up, we wouldn't even have Mahomes in uniform on game day.

As you prepare for your draft, here are your base picks (round and overall pick):

1-27
2-59
3-91
3-104
4-132
5-170
5-180
6-216
6-218
7-245

You can accept or reject the following trades. Refer to them by the Trade Identification below in your draft and specifically state whether you are accepting or rejecting these trades before making your picks.

Trade A: 1-27 and 3-91 and next years 1-xx pick for 1-10

Trade B: 3-104 and 4-132 and 7-245 for 3-86

Trade C: 5-170 and 5-180 for 4-139

Trade D: If James O'Shaugnessy is on your roster, O'Shaughnessy and 6-216 for 5-183

Of course, you can trade up or down one time on your own as well. Recall that your draft points must be discounted by 35 percent on a trade down and 15 percent on a trade up.

Okay, my team is going to the draft immediately.

We reject Trade A, Trade B, Trade C, and Trade D. We're standing pat (or rather, non-Pat) with the original picks.

#1-27. Taco Charlton, Defensive End

We need a defensive end badly, and he's a good talent at this spot. He's an easy pick for us. The only other players I would consider are Forrest Lamp, Dalvin Cook, TJ Watt, Ryan Anderson, and Reuben Foster. However, I don't need an ILB, there are other running backs available later, and Charlton is at a higher value position than Lamp. I value Charlton above the two OLBs, so Charlton it is. Lamp would probably be my second choice here.

#2-59 - Alvin Kamara, Running Back

Tough decision here. I think there are good running backs later, so I'm overpaying for Kamara, but I don't see a better value. My other considerations were guard Dion Dawkins, SS Josh Jones, RB Kareem Hunt, DE Tanoh Kpassagnon, and DE Chris Wormley, but I've already drafted one DE and I need a RB as bad as I need a guard. Jones is too expensive and Hunt isn't as strong in my mind as Kamara, so I'll go with Kamara. My second choice would probably be Dawkins, but it's a distant second.

3-91 - Samaje Perine, Running Back

This was a huge debate between Perine, OLB Carl Lawson, and running back James Conner. In the end, i decided the Perine was a more safe pick over Conner given his stats and production. But it was close. Other considerations included G Dorian Johnson, SS John Johnson, and RB Tarik Cohen. I really hate to pass up on OLB Carl Lawson, but feel like there's some cheaper talent later.

3-104 - Dorian Johnson, Guard

I need a guard badly and figured he would go earlier. Value pick here. Other considerations were RB Tarik Cohen and OLB Carl Lawson. I'm not going to draft three RBs in a row. Lawson deserves strong consideration because that's an area of major need. I'm really torn on that one, but will give Johnson the edge on injury resistance.

4-132 - Desmond King

Another tough choice. I initially went with Ryan Switzer as a luxury pick. I'd really like to draft him. I also could take Isaac Asiata at guard or Wayne Gallman at running back instead of Perine earlier. Chad Hanson at wide receiver was under consideration as well. But in the end, I think I can use King somewhere in my defensive backfield, either as a corner or by moving Reshad Jones back to SS and putting King at FS. Too much talent to resist.

5-170 - Nathan Peterman, Quarterback.

This was a problematic pick. I couldn't really find anyone I needed who was a good value here. I had a backup quarterback on my wish list, so welcome to the team, Nathan. It was either him or guard Danny Isidora, or TE Bucky Hodges as a pure value play. I pondered trading down from this pick to add a couple of the 7th rounders that I like, but couldn't do it.

5-180 - Caleb Brantley, Defensive Tackle.

I have no need for a defensive tackle, but what the heck. If he doesn't go to prison or get blackballed from the league, he'll be a good deal at this pick. Didn't really consider anyone else aside from Danny Isidora and DT Tanzel Smart and Bucky Hodges. I pondered trading down from this pick, too, but couldn't do it.

6-216 - Ifeadi Odenigbo, Defensive end

I need pass rushers, and Odenigbo may be inexpensive help. I didn't really see any other choices to consider here.

6-218 - Ejuan Price, Defensive End

I wasn't planning to draft so many defensive ends, but he seemed like good value. I really need an OLB, so I was tempted to take Josh Carraway or even Dylan Cole, but in the end I went with Price, who is about the same size.

7-245 - Malachi Dupre, Wide Receiver

What a tough call. I don't really need a WR, but he can develop. I really need an OLB and considered Dylan Cole, and was also very interested in S Lorenzo James and G Collin Buchanan. In the end, I reluctantly went with Dupre.

In my desperation to find a franchise QB, the Fresno roster has suffered in recent years, accumulating holes and missing out on picks Dorsey hit on. At this point, we're re-building. I'm going to roll with Dorsey this year as his draft tended to address holes that my roster has. I also like the upside of a bunch of picks that were traded up for. To me it says they are more "sure" and it's an investment they'll be wanting more from. Really liked Kamara, but worried he’s going to be lost in a deep committee in New Orleans. I am accepting all trades that the Chiefs made and the players as well.

As stated, I’m accepting all trades, but just to make it clear for tracking purposes:

We ACCEPT Trade A: 1-27 and 3-91 and next years 1-xx pick for 1-10
We ACCEPT Trade B: 3-104 and 4-132 and 7-245 for 3-86
We ACCEPT Trade C: 5-170 and 5-180 for 4-139
We ACCEPT Trade D: O'Shaughnessy and 6-216 for 5-183

QB - Patrick Mahomes II
DE - Tanoh Kpassagnon
RB - Kareem Hunt
WR - Jehu Chesson
ILB - Ukeme Eligwe
CB - Leon McQuay III

Here's my current roster before any late free agency moves. Rookies are in neon green.

QB
Russell Wilson
Brett Hundley
Nathan Peterman (Bills)
Geno Smith
Nick Foles
Joel Stave

Pretty good here. Strong starter and a couple of developmental backups. Will Geno stay on the roster? Grade: A.

HB
Alvin Kamara (Saints)
Samaje Perine (Redskins)

Jamaal Charles
Denard Robinson
C.J. Spiller
Will Ratelle

Massive rookie infusion here as we change the guard and try to build up an anemic rushing game. Grade: D, but hopefully rising.

WR
Jeremy Maclin
Donte Moncrief
Kendall Wright
Albert Wilson
Malachi Dupre (Packers)
Rod Streater
Seantavius Jones

Ravaged by injuries last year. I'm hoping they stay health this year. Plenty of depth. Grade: C+.

TE
Travis Kelce
Ben Koyack
Anthony Fasano

Strong and deep here. Grade: A.

OT
Mitchell Schwartz
Morgan Moses
Menelik Watson
TJ Clemmings
Cyrus Kouandjio
Corey Robinson
Josh James

No true left tackle, despite significant investment. But I've got two serviceable starters and I'll likely end up cutting a developmental player before the investment plays out. Way too much mediocrity here for the work I've put in. Grade: C-.

G
Alex Boone
Dorian Johnson (Cardinals)
Christian Westerman
Jah Reid - 1 start
Mike Person

Westerman went on IR early last year. Hopefully he or my rookie ends up starting. Grade: D.

C
Cody Whitehair
Evan Boehm

Strong here. No problems. Grade: A.

K
Cairo Santos

Best in NFL. Grade: B+

P
Dustin Colquitt

Best in NFL. Grade: B+

LS*
James Winchester

Best in NFL. Grade: B+

FS
Reshad Jones
Desmond King (Chargers)
Jordan Poyer
Derron Smith

If Desmond King does well, I can move my all-star Reshad to SS. I was injury-riddled at the safety spots last year. Grade: A.

SS
Miles Killebrew
Tyvon Branch

Don't know if one of these guys can take a starting spot this year. I've had trouble fielding two good safeties. Grade: D.

CB
Marcus Peters
Terrance Mitchell
Steve Nelson
Kendall Fuller
Harlan Miller
Kalan Reed
Julian Wilson

Very young group and ascending. I'm hoping the trend continues. Grade: B.

OLB
Tamba Hali
Nate Orchard
AJ Klein
Victor Ochi
Earl Okine

This is my disaster area, but I couldn't invest in it this year. I'm hoping Orchard comes back from injury and that I can squeeze one more year out of Tamba. Major question mark area. Grade: D- and that may be generous.

ILB
Derrick Johnson
Zach Brown
Scooby Wright
Justin March
Rey Maualuga

I'm fine here if DJ comes back. Zach Brown was a pleasant surprise for me last year. He's been barely making my roster every year since I drafted him and then did great last year. Grade: B, but it's an A if DJ comes back strong.

DE
Star Lotulelei
Taco Charlton (Cowboys)
Jarvis Jenkins
Ifeadi Odenigbo (Vikings)
Ejuan Price (Rams)

Nick Williams

Major investment area this year. I wouldn't mind switching to a 4-3 and my new ends can help, but I'm still probably a 3-4 this year. Star is playing out of position for me, but I'm okay at NT. Grade: D+, but hopefully rising.

NT
Brandon Williams
Andrew Billings
Bennie Logan
Caleb Brantley (Browns)
Daniel McCullers
Michael Bennett (the other one, not the good one)
Cory Johnson

Great shape here with Brandon Williams, and hopefully I can get production out of my rookies and free agents. Billings was in IR all season, so I'll get him back. I suddenly have lots of bodies here. Grade: A.

2017 DRAFT

ACCEPT Trade A: 1-27 and 3-91 and next years 1-xx pick for 1-10
DECLINE Trade B: 3-104 and 4-132 and 7-245 for 3-86
DECLINE Trade C: 5-170 and 5-180 for 4-139
ACCEPT Trade D: James O'Shaugnessy and 6-216 for 5-183

MY TRADE UP:

To Jacksonville
5-170: 23.4*0.85 = 19.89
5-183: 18.2*0.85 = 15.47
Total = 35.36

To Kansas City
5-148: 32.2
7-222: 2.6
Total = 34.80

1-010: Patrick Mahomes II, QB, Texas Tech (10 KC)
2-059: Tanoh Kpassagnon, DE, Villanova (59 KC)
3-104: Dorian Johnson, OG, Pittsburgh (115 ARZ)
4-132: Carlos Watkins, DT, Clemson (142 HOU)
5-148: Blair Brown, ILB, Ohio (148 JAX)
5-180: Aaron Jones, RB, Texas El-Paso (182 GB)
6-218: Stacy Coley, WR, Miami (219 MIN)
7-222: Zane Gonzalez, K, Arizona State (224 CLE)
7-245: Christopher Carson, RB, Oklahoma State (249 SEA)

I felt like I really had to go out and address the QB position this year. Losing Foles in FA hurt since he was my only reserve QB last season. I have the now and the future in Smith and Mahomes. Not sure how #3 is going to shake out at the moment as it looks like Bray, who I cut, will be #3 and Stave will be the odd man out. I may be rolling with 2 QBs once again.

I passed on Chris Jones last year, so I'm weak on the defensive line. I'm not all that excited about KC's pick of Kpassagnon, but perhaps they can turn him into something more than an athletic freak. I didn't accept a couple of KC's mid-round trades because I really needed to double-dip on the defensive line, so I went out and got a guy who I feel is athletic and will be a rotational player early for Houston with later starting potential in Carlos Watkins.

I limped through last year with practice squad types on my roster at OG, so I went and got Dorian Johnson. Johnson was one of my favorite guards in this class and he was highly touted among scouts. I really think he starts day one for Arizona and never looks back. I really need a starter at guard opposite Tardif. I'm hoping my 2016 pick, McGovern, starts for Denver this year as that would really solidify the group since I'm not all that thrilled with Tardif at this juncture.

Another reason I passed on some mid-round trades was that I wanted to use the ammunition gained in the O'Shaughnessy trade to go up and get Blair Brown. I'm hopeful that my 4th rounder last year, Josh Perry, gets a shot this year and that Brown also gets one, otherwise my ILBs look pretty bad with DJ out. If nothing else, Brown looks like a guy that will eventually replace Paul Posluszny at SLB in Jacksonville. I could be left with a bit of an issue at ILB once again in 2017.

I was unhappy with my situation at RB after watching Charles go and West look bad last season. I stood pat with #180 to take Aaron Jones, who I think has Shady McCoy type ability and will push hard for that starting job in Green Bay. I made a bold move in picking up Christopher Carson out of Oklahoma State that was drafted by Seattle. This was a guy that Pete Carroll personally wanted to draft, and if this kid holds true to being a battering ram like he started to show last season, he could be a big-time piece for the Seahawks and will boost my running game with 2 power backs.

I used my 6th rounder to pick up a developmental receiver in Stacy Coley. If he can find the passion for the game in the NFL that he lacked in college, he could end up being a steal for the Vikings and, with all their youth at WR, could push for quite a few reps early on.

Call me an idiot, but I just don't care that much for Cairo Santos. I think he lacks the leg power, given his stature, to drive the ball when it's needed most. He's not very good outside of about 45 yards. I'm going to get a big-leg kicker and call it day. Welcome to KC, Mr. Gonzalez.

We accepted all of the Chiefs free agents to our roster for now. I'm sure most of them will be gone when we have to cut down from 90 to 53. It sucked losing Foles and Poe.

We accepted the following trades: Trades A, C and D.

We rejected the following trades: Trade B.

Here was our draft.

Draft
1 (10) Patrick Mahomes II, QB, Texas Tech
2 (59) Tanoh Kpassagnon, DE, Villanova
3 (104) Vince Biegel, OLB, Wisconsin
4 (132) Sean Harlow, OG, Oregon State
4 (139) Marlon Mack, RB, South Florida

6 (218) Jalen Myrick, CB, Minnesota
7 (245) Damorea'ea Stringfellow, WR, Ole Miss

I hadn't thought about it, but you're right. You can take the tradeup without taking Mahomes. Interesting decision coming up.

I passed on Hunt in the 3rd for Mack in the 4th. I think he'll be a good fit in Indy.
