Nzoner's Game Room>Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay on the Outs?
Dante84 01:21 PM 04-29-2021

Reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers is so disgruntled with the Green Bay Packers that he has told some within the organization that he does not want to return to the team, league and team sources told ESPN on Thursday.

More on NFL Live now....

#Packers GM Brian Gutekunst to ESPN: "As we've stated since the season ended, we are committed to Aaron in 2021 and beyond. Aaron has been a vital part of our success and we look forward to competing for another championship with him leading our team."

The Packers are aware of his feelings, concerned about them and have had team president Mark Murphy, general manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur each fly out on separate trips to meet with Rodgers at various points this offseason, sources told ESPN.

"As we've stated since the season ended, we are committed to Aaron in 2021 and beyond," Gutekunst told ESPN. "Aaron has been a vital part of our success and we look forward to competing for another championship with him leading our team."

Rodgers has not budged this offseason, but neither have the Packers, who have made it known they are not interested in trading Rodgers anywhere.

The San Francisco 49ers called the Packers on Wednesday night, a source told ESPN, and the Los Angeles Rams inquired about Rodgers in January before they traded for Matthew Stafford.

The Packers quickly dismissed the Rams' overtures, the source said.

The Packers have offered to extend Rodgers' contract, sources told ESPN.

Rodgers is unhappy for a variety of reasons, with some of it dating back to last year's draft when the Packers didn't inform him before trading up to draft a quarterback with their first-round pick. Some took this as a sign that his days in Green Bay could he numbered.

He also is at a different point in his personal life, having recently gotten engaged to actress Shailene Woodley. Rodgers also has hosted "Jeopardy!" and said it would be a dream to become the full-time host. He could play football and host Jeopardy! together.

Rodgers has made cryptic comments about his future in Green Bay, but he has told others that he does not want to return.

On draft night, the Packers' biggest issue isn't who they land, but whether they can keep the former NFL MVP.

Rodgers' contract contained a $6.8 million roster bonus due in March. It could have been converted into a signing bonus that would have freed up more than $4.5 million in salary-cap space for this season but instead it "vested as scheduled," a source told ESPN at the time. It's listed as an automatic conversion in Rodgers' contract but even that has to be signed off on by both parties. It's not known if the Packers tried to convert and Rodgers refused to sign off on it, or if they did not attempt a conversion.

Playing Rodgers and then letting him walk would be asinine.
Who said anything about letting him walk?

He will still be under contract.

From what I’m reading the Packers are about to renegotiate his contract so he can be a FA next Spring

I don’t know where you’ve seen that, but that makes no sense, and contradicts what was said yesterday about their new agreement.

Not a F/A, just able to be traded under terms more feasible for GB.

Seriously, I was being generous. If I give them the L's that I wanted to, I'd have them at 6 wins. And it's gonna FUNNY AS HELL to watch them react! :-)

It's unclear. I've heard they're just going to lop 2023 off and then trade him in 2022.

You sound like Chiefs fans during Pioli.

“Our defense looks really good! And we’ve got a RB…”

This ain’t the 90s. If you don’t have a QB, you need a great head coach or else you’re sunk. Fangio is too much of an old grouch to gain respect or bring a team together. Reminds me of Tom Coughlin without the track record of previous success. Those kinds of coaches are doomed to fail these days.

The Chiefs didn’t have good head coaches, and we certainly had no QBs during that time. Our “on paper” roster looked awesome with all those defensive pro bowlers, but we needed a real coach.

Better hope Elway stays off the hiring committee when it comes time to replace Fangio next year

7-1 at home and 1-8 on the road. They could very well just win 8 games, but it won't be by that kind of variance in the home/away. They'll win/lose a few they're not supposed to win/lose.

Other than it being a road game the first week, not sure why the Giants would be chalked up as a loss - they can certainly win that one. Same with the Cowboys.

That final home game (last game) vs KC would be the streak breaker. I can see them splitting with the Chargers and Raiders.

@ Giants - W
@ Jags - W
Jets - W
Ravens - L
@ Steelers - L
Raiders - W
@Browns - W
Washington - W
@Cowboys - L
Eagles - W
Chargers - W
@ KC - L
Detroit - W
Bengals - L
@ Raiders - L
@ Chargers - L
KC - W

I'll put that out there for you... 10-7. They'll sneak a win @ CLE and then fall to a hot CIN team late. And, they'll beat KC in the season finale. And, they'll miss a wildcard slot, but end on a positive note by doubling wins from 2020 despite losing 3 of final 4.
I have their ceiling at 9 wins. Bottom at 6. IMO, they'll finish 8-9 for their 5th losing season in a row. They won't beat Cleveland or KC, even with Chad Henne at QB. They'll also lose the opener at NY and I'm not sure they'll make it out of September with a winning record. I think I won that argument with you about their hot starts would be over as soon as they stopped being gifted an early season home heavy schedule. You know, I've been pretty accurate predicting theirrecord the past 5 years. You - not so much. Just throwing that out there. :-)

Same thing really. This is his last year. He’s getting the fuck out of there next season and is forcing the Packers to agree to it basically

It's tough for me to imagine Denver even sniffing 10 wins. This is a coach/QB league and they're damn near the very bottom of that totem pole. I like their picks of Surtain and Javonte Williams though. I think they'll be good players.

Von Miller will be back and my Broncos friends seem to think that will propel their defense to being the 85 Bears. He hasn't played a game in 2 years and his 2019 season was very similar to the season Justin Houston had last year in Indianapolis. AKA get that fork ready to stick in him because he's about done. Plus he's 32, coming off yet another major injury, and he seemingly has 0 fucks left to give to that organization.

I'm not sure if Broncos fans are just spoiled, delusional, or both. I'm good friends with plenty of them as you might imagine, and one of them this week said with a straight face that they're instant Super Bowl contenders with Rodgers.

Playoff contenders I'd buy. But Super Bowl? Get out of here with that bullshit.

No, a trade and letting him walk are not the same thing.

Also, he’s not forcing him to do anything. They don’t have to trade him next offseason either, although they probably will.

What, you don't consider multiple first round draft picks to be the same as a bag of rocks?
