2023 – A new beginning for the Royals. Matt Quatraro era begins. A year to see which of our young players will make up the core going forward. Can Bobby Witt Jr become a superstar SS or will go to the hot corner? Will Brady Singer take the next step forward? Will Salvy be Salvy? Will Big Vin or Pratto take first base? Will they find a position for MJ? Who else emerges from the youth movement? Not to mention the development of the new downtown stadium.

Booby has a big flaw: can’t hit FB, which are half of pitches thrown. Here are his runs created vs them
2022. -8.9
2023. -7.8
Vs the 4 seam he is -9 which is the second worst pitch any hitter is struggling with in MLB. The league avg vs fastballs is .240 vs only .211 for secondary pitches so others don’t struggle like he does [Reply]
Samad Taylor is looking real good in AAA this year. He can play 2nd, LF, or CF and was acquired in the Whit Merrifield trade. OPSing .823 and can steal like a motherfucker. It'd be nice if he turned into something. [Reply]

How often do we see guys that can't hit a FB? Most the time a guy gets up here and fails because he can't hit breaking stuff. I don't think I've ever heard of a guy that can't hit a FB. [Reply]

Had the exact thought
Esp for young guys. Data proves aging harms eyesight and ability to hit heat. He’s too young for this. He may grow out of it soon, we will watch for it [Reply]

I was going to say there is no reason why Lopez should be playing over Garcia, but actually Lopez has been decent this year. According to baseball reference he has 0.9 WAR in 30 games this season. That extrapolates out to 4.9 WAR over 162 games. He's got decent value considering he plays GG caliber D at SS and he's been more than serviceable at the plate this year with a .723 OPS, plus he can play other positions. He could be a decent trade chip over the off-season if he can keep his OPS above .700. He also is cost controlled through 2024, 2025, and maybe even 2026, but I'm not sure if he's eligible for free agency after 2025 or after 2026. [Reply]
