Nzoner's Game Room>***Official 2020-21 Missouri Tigers Basketball Thread***

Apologies if someone else already started this, but thought I would get the conversation going if not.

Hell of a win tonight. Pinson is a stud. Tilmon looks to have finally learned how to defend without fouling.

Definitely a promising start to the season. 2-0 and looks like this has a chance to be the best team of the Cuonzo era up to this point.

He's a really good coach NOW, he wasn't then. He was young and inexperienced and it showed many times on the floor.

He did recruit well, though.

Could be, but he had the same intricate player-development plan he is currently using in Utah. He was always going to get better as he matured, as we all do.

Snyder left the program on probation for 3 years and had one fluke run to the Elite 8.

He’s having success now in the NBA, but he’s not the same coach nor does he have the same experience now as he did 15-20 years ago.

I saw this article yesterday that talks about how good Jazz under Quin Snyder have been at developing players.

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features...-for-the-jazz/

Quin could not coach half court offense very well compared to Norm Stewart, and his Mizzou teams were hard to watch sometimes, but he has become solid as NBA coach.

That wasn't a fluke run. They were a legit top 10 team who under performed in Big 12 play.

Should have beaten OU in that game as well. ****ing free throws, IIRC.

You know, that, and the fact that they're still not totally obsessed with Mizzou after all these years . . . . . . .

It's unhealthy guys. Move on. We had a good run, but it's over.

Also, it's basketball season now. The one time of year that KU fan feels the need to have a dick measuring contest. Makes them feel better about themselves. You know, until the inevitable Tourney flameout . . . . . .
I guess MU fan knows all about that, since they have to use the conferences dong for measurements, SEC SEC SEC, since their athletics have crashed since the move. :-)

Maybe we need to play each other in basketball and football each year. Seems both were better then.

Fluke might be a strong word.

Cinderella is probably more apt.

Anything after like an 8 or 9 seed making it to the E8 is an anomaly.

Not when you were the #2 ranked team in the country at one point -with All-American leading the team.

You have to underachieve pretty heavily during the regular season to go from #2 in the country to a 12 seed.

That can also bring up another discussion about how rankings in general are BS-Virginia was unranked heading into the season where they were the #1 overall seed when they lost to UMBC.

Thankfully, as opposed to football, rankings don’t mean much come tournament time.

There were a lot of things Quin Snyder got right. He could recruit. His players liked him.

But he also was young and had problems that a lot of good-looking, young millionaires have in college towns. It was too soon for him to have that job. He had a hard time adjusting to the more public scrutiny a public university is subject to, also.

That 01-02 team he took to the Elite 8 was pretty talented. They underachieved horribly in conference play - his inexperience really showed there, and they didn't have a true lead guard. But that was definitely a top 10-15 roster. They lost to the Sooners primarily because Clarence Gilbert had an awful day from the floor (and shooters gonna shoot!).

Maybe.

But the Mizzou AD has gone on record many times stating we are up for renewing the 'rivalry' in both sports, but Little Bill doesn't want to. Apparently he is still butthurt about us leaving the Big 12 (nevermind the fact that it had NOTHING to do with KU and was all about TEXAS and their toxic culture and power grab in the Big 12) and going to the SEC. Don't know what to tell him? Sorry, Bill. Get over it. It's not about you and never was.

If he can't see that NOW more than ever, not sure what else can be said . . .

The buyout drops to $6 million on May 1st of this year. The AD doesn’t have that just laying around, and the donors who would normally write checks for things like that have been hit up a lot in the past few years.

I know the guy who was screaming for them to get rid of Kermit the coach from the second he lost to the Roos in his debut and offering to make it happen has said he’s done for a while. That’s a big hit.
The program barely has a pulse as it stands…can’t even imagine what it’ll be like in a couple of years.

Banging Cheerleaders and doing blow was not a good look.
