You guys are silly. The 10% tax is what the casinos and online books will pay the state (I believe in addition to existing taxes that any other business would pay. In essence, the state gets 10% of the profit right off the top). They aren't gonna tax individuals 10% per bet.

How do you think they will pay for it?

The casino out here is state owned. The casinos in Vegas are privately owned. The Vegas Casinos keep that 10% betting fee as profit.

Will the state-owned casinos only charge the 10% or will it be 10% casino betting fee + 10% state tax? They really ****ed up by calling the 10% a "tax", because most people would assume it's on top of the betting fee.

It's a legitimate question.

I'm not a gambler, but a bet or two on the NFL would be fun. Hollywood Casino is a short drive for me. It looks well maintained with several food options. I can see an occasional Sunday during NFL season.

Vegas casinos pay taxes to the state.
Not sure why everyone is freaking out about this. It's not going to be any different here than anywhere else to the person placing the bet.

“Sportsbooks” in Iowa casinos suck ass. Bunch of TVs with folding chairs basically. Nothing like what you’d see in Vegas. I don’t expect much different in Kansas, mobile betting is what makes them their money.

I don't claim to know much about casinos, but it looks like Hollywood Casino in KCK is actually owned by Penn Gaming, not a lease or something else.

It sure looks nice from the pictures I've seen and comments. I might stop by next time I'm up that way.

Its a very cheaply run operation. It takes about 40 min to get a drink on a Friday and Saturday night since they have only one place open you can get a drink from. Hire more people.

That doesn't sound good. I think most places are struggling to get employees.

It's the most worn down looking of the three I've been to (Hollywood, Harrah's, Argosy) but I have really good luck there and the dealers are really friendly.

It is a legit question, for sure. And I don't know all (or any) of the answers but I would be really surprised if it costs us 10% more money to lay a bet in KS then it does in Vegas, or Phoenix, or Biloxi, Etc. If so, they'll get every newbie once before they realize they can bet online or drive to Iowa and then the profit will dry right up. Most of us that want to sports bet, do so now anyway. I would love to be able to drive 20 minutes away and get my cash out today but not at the expense of that 10%.
