It's not a bad idea, actually.
In NBA the 14 teams that don't make the playoffs have a lottery for the top 4 slots, then the rest are determined by w/l and sos as usual and it's only for round 1.
I'd venture the NFL would very similarly take the 18 teams that don't make the playoffs and lotto the top 5. [Reply]

I'm not sure how I would like that process for the NFL since it's a QB driven league. Teams that end up with the first pick in the draft usually need a QB. As a fan it would suck to endure a 2-win season only to not have a chance for that guy. [Reply]
I wouldn't be surprised if Goodell came up with a re-draft of the league. Like a madden fantasy draft because it would generate ad revenue and corporate excitement! [Reply]
Not needed in the NFL. Most contracts aren't guaranteed. While front office guys and maybe a tenured coach or two might entertain the idea of tanking, players would never go for it. Every year we see a crap team or two, late in the season, beat a top team. [Reply]
