For all things Royals in 2022. #3 minor league system according to Baseball America. The Bobby Witt era should begin this year. Will Salvy still be the homerun king? How does the glut of infield players work out? Will the young pitchers take the next step?

Ya. Been playing around with trade packages with the Yankees for a bit and Sikkema was a guy I looked at that would have been one of the lower level guys in the system I would have targeted.

Sikkema, LHP, is Yankees’ No. 19 prospect, per @MLBPipeline. Beck Way, RHP, is No. 21. Champlain, RHP, not in top 30. https://t.co/V1hDP9Wp9E

Sikkema and Way are the prizes there. Sikkema has been hurt a lot as a pro but been really effective this year. He’s probably headed towards the Yankees top 10 if not traded.

Way is super projectable and has control question marks. Like the pitchers KC loves to draft.

That they absolutely cannot develop. Ever.

Right. That part is obvious, yeah?

Way throws 100 mph and has been at elevating the fastball for whiffs. I’m sure KC will immediately set out to have him focus on pounding the corner low and away and taking a bit off to do it.

Kinda disappointing we could only get 1 top 20 guy and he was 19. Especially with all the teams that were interested.

Word is, Benintendi has told folks he will get the vaccination. Trade is final, so Yankees must believe he will.

Yeah - pretty standard 'cover the bases' deal.

Benintendi is a really quality ballplayer. Does a lot of things well; someone that you spend a lot of time trying to get your hands on when you're a contender.

You really don't want to risk getting nothing in return and yes, Way has that sort of downside.

If he stays healthy, I don't see a scenario where Sikkema isn't at least a quality reliever. None of his stuff blows you away, but he's a really smart pitcher with excellent command and 3 solid pitches. He has a shot at being a back of the rotation lefty but I think his stuff will play up very nicely in relief.

Eh it's just okay, I imagine a lot of fans are going to hate that trade. I just don't think rentals are what they used to be. When they trade Whit it'll probably be worse. They have to fix the pitching development or it won't matter anyway.

Beck is the prize here. I saw him this spring and he flashed mid-rotation potential. Champlain and Sikkema are more backend starter types with a relief option if it doesn’t work pic.twitter.com/PohjaqczTM https://t.co/UMl1o9KJWC

Without Barlow included, we weren't getting one of the Yankee studs. Beck Way is a good pickup.

This is the type of deal you have to take, especially on rentals, these days. Shoot for lower level guys with potential helium and hope it hits.

I would have been dangling Barlow, too, and asked for a top 10 guy in place of Champlain. But I’m sure KC will try to hang on to him and win with him next year.

Which means Mamaron will shred his arm his arm down the stretch trying to win 75 instead of 70 and save his job.
