Nzoner's Game Room>COVID Memo from the NFL
Sassy Squatch 11:36 AM 07-22-2021

Here’s more from today’s memo, which also says the team responsible for a canceled game because of an outbreak among unvaccinated players/staff will be responsible for financial losses and subject to potential discipline from the commissioner. Wow. pic.twitter.com/Q86a2WcG1K

Maybe go to the NFLPA and propose a waiver to be signed by all the players stating they understand the risks, and anyone that comes down with it is out automatically two weeks with no pay? I don't know. This decree of forfeited money and automatic losses is over the top, imho.

I don't get punishing the opposing team. I imagine this policy is meant to pressure teams to hit the 85% number. From there, it's the Jon Rahm scenario. We gave you the chance to make this go away and because you chose not to, we now can take strict measures.

Why are we testing asymptomatic vaccinated people at all?

There's also a high number of false positives.

The NFL doesn't get to pretend like it suddenly gives a shit about its players. It doesn't. It's protecting itself against litigation...

Except that this screws fans of the team and could cost owners millions. I suppose there's a price to this kind of freedom. But realize the implications of superstars being plucked out of games left and right.

I'm not interested in debating the efficacy of the virus or the vax in here. This is about the precedent the NFL is about to set by mandating this.

One legit outbreak on a team, even if it only hits a few players could mean missing a few weeks of games. They're protecting themselves from teams screwing up the entire season for something that can be easily preventable.

I agree. I'm not going to be shitty to anyone in here about it. It wasn't their call.

You aren't stopping an airborne virus. You aren't stopping the flu either. Covid isn't going anywhere...

That's why you go by a player-by-player account and not punish entire teams and their fan bases wholesale. That's entirely too excessive.

This is quickly becoming more and more clear that this largely isn't even about vaccination. It's about fear and resentment, and the vaccination issue is the vehicle.

Miraculously, immediately, resolve the vaccine issue, and there will be something new tomorrow for people to call other people stupid selfish fucking assholes for not doing exactly what you want them to.

But is it? Like I said, even the vax'd can still get infected. Some security guard's cousin might give it to the guard and the next thing you know you've got 50 people throughout the organization that are asymptomatic with it.
