3-4 in the playoffs with a HOF QB and that 'legendary' 2017 draft class. Just how much of a shyster is Payton that he managed to accomplish so little with so much.

McShay said he talked to 10 guys in the NFL who are high-ranking talent evaluators.

None had a 1st round grade on Bo Nix.

Thank God Patrick never went to New Orleans bc Sean Payton wasted the last 10 years of Brees career. A HOF QB in his prime without facing Manning or Brady in his conference from 2011-2019 and he never made it back to the Super Bowl.

He’s the most overrated coach ever. Cajun Mike McCarthy :-)
He’s also a junkie. Imagine letting a guy who steals painkillers from your medical staff run the whole operation

During an appearance on The Ryen Russillo Podcast on Friday, former ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay said that he views Nix as a backup and that other teams he spoke to did not see him as a first-round-caliber player.
"What I want to say to this big picture is: I love stories like this. I promise you," McShay said. "I've talked to—let's call it a dozen, maybe a little more, maybe a couple less—but at least 10 guys in the league that are high-ranking evaluators and decision-makers in their organization. Nobody else had a first-round grade on him. I view him as a backup."

There's no question it was a reach, but they didn't have a second-round pick (traded for Payton), so if they felt like they had to get a QB, it is what it is.

I would have fine with the Chiefs reaching for a QB in the Huard / Croyle / Thigpen / Cassel years. It's not like there's much else to root for if your other QB options are Jarret Stidham and Zach Wilson.

:-) Seeing that, as they worked through the evaluations, prompted Payton to say to team CEO Greg Penner and his GM, “I promise you this: We’re not the only ones that feel this strongly about this player.”

:-) Funniest bit is Penner doesn't sound all that convinced. Payton had to pull the "it's not just us that thinks he's good. Pinky promise uwu"

That story makes the pick look worse. Payton the coach overruled Payton the QB evaluator.

Enough people, by then, had connected the dots to where Denver had to be careful. Which is one reason why the Broncos stayed where they were at 12, resisting a trade back, and had mild concern that the Raiders could leapfrog them. Once Penix went at No. 8, that killed any idea of a trade down, since it took that option off the table for a Vegas group that had been linked to the Washington QB. Denver was locked in, fingers crossed that nothing would change.

:-):-):-):-):-) Even now he's content to sit with his dick in his hand and wait to be cucked.

If he gets his Brock Purdy then the pick worked. It does help that Payton runs an offense that doesn't require elite physical tools.
