It's happening. Discus.

Kansas City Chiefs signed sixth-round draft pick Trey Smith to $3.809 million deal that includes $130,704 signing bonus

It's really crazy that there was a time where a first round rookie could come in and instantly be your highest paid player.

Now he needs to extend Honey Badger, sign Justin Houston, sign Breeland and trade for Julio Jones.

That would be one of the best teams in history.

Not having a 1st rounder this year cut down on what we had to spend. Before the Brown trade, I read that we'd have to spend about $7.5M, but afterwards it dropped into the $5-5.5M range. When you spread those signing bonuses out over 3-4 years, it isn't much more than the minimum for the 4th and down rounders.

Yeah, on top of that Orlando Brown is making third round money for this year. That's pennies on the dollar for what he brings to our offense.

So glad they changed the way rookie contracts went. Getting the #1 overall pick and drafting a QB that bust would take a team multiple years to recover from that cap hell. It's usually the same teams drafting at the top and they were already terribly run and then you throw an albatross contract on top of that. Sheesh.
