If KC is looking to upgrade its RT spot in free agency, I'm not sure it's going to find a better value than La'el Collins.
That's the route I'd go if I'm Veach and I'm trying to upgrade at a bear-able cost.
Brown-Thuney-Humphrey-Smith-Collins would pretty easily be the best OL in the NFL. Not a single weak spot and honestly not that expensive due to the rookies.
I can't imagine Collins would cost a LOT in draft compensation. [Reply]
What about signing Eric Fisher? Tell Orlando he gets his LT money but he can play RT this year. That would also work well if he was a team player (and I think he would be as he would be our long-term LT). [Reply]

I heard some statistic that only one player drafted 25-50 over the last 15-20yrs had more than 8 sacks in his rookie season (Clay Matthews).
We need a pass rush, folks, and we're not going to be getting an immediate impact edge in the first round at 30.
If Smith is the opening move on Veach's chess board, so be it. Let's see how it all plays out but it's not like anyone can really question the thought process behind it. [Reply]

To be fair, 7 sacks would be a dramatic improvement over what we have so if a rookie could give us that, it's probably worth it in the long run.
All in all, though I agree with you. Let the man work, he's armed and dangerous. Love me some Brett Veach. [Reply]
