I've been so caught up in finding items for my children and wife that I've totally forgotten about myself, so I'll need to go out again late this week. :-)
Glad to hear that my man, being in the heart of LA like you has gotta be challenging... keep us updated on how its going :-)

I'm not advocating uncontrolled panicking. If you panic for more than a couple of hours, you will exhaust yourself and
you may well not have to energy to panic later, when you really feel you have to

So try about 20 minutes panicking at 11.00 am, and then another spell at 6.00pm

This math is off by a factor of 10 (at least). Those figures were based on limited testing where only the most severe cases where getting tested (for the most part). As testing expands that rate is dropping at a rapid pace. 20% may be accurate for people 65+ but it is not even close for the general pop.

Yuuuuup. Incubation period + the time it takes to be hospitalized + then possible death. There is a lag time to all of this.

This hasn't been here since November or last year like many claim. We can see that clearly now, because our ICUs and ER's would have been run down and strained.

Any social distancing measures haven't really even been seen in the numbers yet. Our measures will only be seen in the number of critical and deaths weeks from now.

Source?

Happy (and actually want) to be wrong.

On edit: I do agree that none of these reported figures take the population of asymptomatic people into account so I guess that caveat of “tested confirmed cases” should apply.

But even in those places with higher levels of testing are seeing these numbers from all the data I’ve seen.

It's not bad where I'm at in Redondo Beach - pretty laid back, always parking, etc. I wouldn't want to live in Venice or some of the more crowded places though. I lived in SF for 5 years, that was enough. I like being able to drive to 7-11 and back w/o having to worry about losing my parking place.

For those wondering... Italy averages around 20k deaths from the flu per year. (feel free to check my figure here, I am pretty sure this is close)

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

Shows us at 2%.

I'm not sure I trust these numbers completely but that is far more likely compared to 20%

Btw it's not just asymptomatic people that skew the numbers from what you are seeing, their are a number of people who have had the virus with mild symptoms and cleared it and will never go reported. We have no idea what that number is unfortunately, but it could be a very substantial portion of the population given how long the virus has been in the US and how quickly it spreads.
