I saw this topic on another message board and thought it would be fun to share some little known restaurants in Chiefs Country. I realize some of you never stop to eat when traveling since road kill is plentiful, but if you do please share.

Cozy Burger Salina, KS
https://www.cozyburger.com/stories

The mini-hamburgers similar to White Castle have so much onion cooked in them that anyone from the area knows when you visit as the smell of your clothes will give you away. Story is the restaurant decided to get a new grill. Customers complained that the hamburgers were not as good cooked on the new grill, since the grill wasn't seasoned as well. So the owners went out to the landfill and recovered the original grill. If you cannot make through Kansas, you at least want to read some the stories.

Roys BBQ Hutchinson KS
http://roysbbq.com

The only BBQ joint that I prefer the pulled pork over brisket, because their unique BBQ sauce goes with pork so well. If nothing else, buy their sauce online, and purchase some pulled pork at a local eatery and serve with Roy's sauce.

Do-B Empria KS
https://www.do-b.com/32-2/

Never been to Philly, but imagine these Philly Cheese Sandwiches are as good. Never tried the hamburger, but the photos look great.

I know the tornado missed it by about three blocks. It was closed, then somebody bought it and opened it back up. Haven't been there in years, but I'm glad its still open. Places like that are getting rare. Dixon's Chili here in KC is family owned and been around for 100 years. Rare. BTW: If you go to Dixons try a Chili Dog or get a chili cheeseburger. Great burger, well worth the $.

On Fred and Red, if you go to this link, you can see on the map how close they were to the tornado damage. Joplin HS was totally destroyed, and they are just three blocks from there! Wow.. https://fredandredschili.com/

THE KELLY BURGER
$9.00
Our best seller, the Kelly Burger is a juicy bacon double cheeseburger with a slice of ham.

Combo - comes with fries or tots, two crispy onion rings, and a large drink for $12.10.

I order the single Kelly.....just can't eat a full Kelly.

Portia's EATS Cafe is amazing too. Small little house building, about three blocks east of I-70 on Truman Road. Fabulous breakfast, and lunch is good too, especially the fried chicken. Closed for dinner. https://www.facebook.com/Portias-Cafe-775070039258319/

Jimmy’s corner tavern
West 44th st between 6th and 7th NYC
Owned by recently deceased retired legendary cut man Jimmy Glenn. Lots of boxing nostalgia and cheap beer and shots close to Times Square

Rudy’s bar and grill
627 9th ave Manhattan
Cheap beer and they used to have free hot dogs

Ryan’s Irish pub
241 Decatur st
NOLA

Old point bar Algiers point NOLA

If you go in March they have a friendship festival with cheap beer and great food and live music. You have to take the ferry from the French quarter to Algiers point (it’s like $2)

It's been a couple years, but it's still there and pretty tasty. NuWay used to have a couple more locations, but they're long gone. This might be the only one left.

There used to be a Mexican place betweeen Metcalf and Santa Fe in Overland Park called Torreador's. I was taking one of my newbie managers on a tour to meet the local managers and we stopped in there. He swore the mole was just like his mama made.

Wait what!?! Rudy's doesn't have free hot dogs anymore!??! The place looks like such a sh*t hole with ugly pink booths, but it's actually a great atmosphere with cheap beer and of course free hot dogs (had free hot dogs).

I got drunk there once, and as I as walking out a few people were coming in. I said to them "hey, do you know they have free hot dogs?!?!" They looked at me kind of strange, then they saw me hands full with about 4 hot dogs and they just burst out laughing. I looked like a little kid leaving the candy store with a fist full of free candy lol

Glad to see some of my local favorites already listed.

Roy's Hickory Pit BBQ (Hutchinson) - best BBQ I've found outside of KC
Carriage Crossing (Yoder) - food is good overall, but the pies & cinnamon rolls... damn
The Barn (Burrton) - order the plate sized chicken fried steak and thank me later
Skaet's (Hutchinson) - moon burger with fries

I've been eating here a few times a year since I was a kid. My dad's warehouse is in that area. The staff make the place, in my opinion. Food is great as well....I'm partial to the salmon patties and chicken fried chicken days. But the ladies running the show there are great.

I went about 7-8 years between eating there when I was gone for college and just moving back to KC. Walked in a random summer day and Portia says, "Hi Blake, where ya been?" I'd probably eaten there 10 times from age 8-18 and they remembered my name like I was a regular :-)
