Story by Andrew Gould

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl without a star wide receiver, but they could reportedly make an elite offense even scarier by acquiring DeAndre Hopkins.

NFL insider Benjamin Albright told PHNX Cardinals that Kansas City is the "primary suitor" for Hopkins. He doesn't know the draft compensation the Cardinals would receive, but he said it's more likely they get a second-round pick than a first.

After the 2022 season, theScore's Jordan Schultz reported that the Cardinals plan to trade Hopkins this offseason.

Arizona hired a new general manager and head coach after a disappointing four-win season, and Hopkins is set to make $19.45 million (with a $30.75 million cap hit) in 2023. The Cardinals could seek a clean slate by moving the three-time All-Pro wideout, who turns 31 in June.

Hopkins began his Cardinals career by tallying 1,407 yards and six touchdowns in 2020. However, multiple lower body injuries limited him to 10 games in 2021, and he served a six-game suspension to start the 2022 season for violating the NFL's PED policy.

Yet he remains an impact player when on the field. Hopkins totaled 474 receiving yards in six full games with quarterback Kyler Murray last season.

Now imagine what he can accomplish when catching passes from Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs flourished without a star replacement for Tyreek Hill, but they could still benefit by solidifying the position this offseason. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a free agent after garnering 78 catches for 933 yards on a one-year deal. The depth chart features several talented question marks in Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Adding Hopkins could be great news for Kansas City, but terrible for all opposing defenses.

Do we want a high priced prima donna?

Anyone see him at the local Best Buy yet? Is Best Buy still open in the KC area? If it is, can someone check if he's there please?

Many thanks.

I mean after this upcoming season. So next offseason. And that was strictly under the pretense that Hopkins blew up this season and then wanted a new contract. They could release MVS to get some more cap space.

He wanted out of HOU because BoB is an idiot. he wants out of ARI because Kyler is an idiot.

If I were DHop, one of the best to ever do it, 30 years old, languishing on teams that couldn't or wouldn't use me properly, with no chance of winning anything, I'd want the hell out to.

Give him just three years with a top-10 QB, not even an elite one, and he's Canton-bound.

There are about 8 teams going into 2023 that have a legit shot at getting to a SB. KC, BUF, CIN, DAL, PHI, SF, JAX, DET (not saying he's likely to go to any of these). DHop could essentially seal the deal for any of those teams, or at the very least give teams like DET/JAX/DAL a fighting chance to get there.

My point was he isn't going to be a good soldier in a bad situation which other NFL teams understand as well.

So we are a prime place where DHop could go and thrive.

I think he's tired of playing the 'good soldier,' and not having any chance of winning anything. Probably realizes that staying in ARI with Kyler could actually damage his legacy.

While I totally agree he wants a new deal it was also reported that Hopkins is willing to play on those two years and that its mainly about winning not all about money.

I think his new agent will go looking for interested WIN NOW teams with the asking price of what the Cards want as the main objective. Contract will probably be secondary.
AZ radio can say whatever they want. However, what came out of DHop's mouth is that he has an agent so he doesn't get the short end of the stick this time. I would tend to pay attention to what the player is saying rather than some knucklehead on the radio.

If 20 million dollars is taking the short end of the stick to him. Oh my... what is the middle?

What you think the agent will be looking for is vastly different than what any agent is hired to do. They are hired to maximize their clients earnings. An agent has zero interest to make team friendly deals. That is only on the player.

And guess what that player is saying with the words out of his mouth? 20 million is the short end of the stick.
