Just finished the first episode; I guess I'll be keeping HBO a bit longer after Game of Thrones ends.

It is fascinating, horrifying and infuriating. And spellbinding.

Finished this last night, it’s a damn shame they only did five episodes

Radiation so strong it basically disintegrated a helicopter mid-flight? :-)

Imagine the mental and physical hell of being on the “90 second crew” who went up on the roof to toss the graphite back down into the pit :-)

The chopper hit some sort of suspension line from a crane with its blades. If you watch close you can see whatever it was supporting fall when the cable is cut by the chopper blades.

It's tough to catch.

The helicopter pilot got disoriented in proximity to the core convection and maneuvered the copter into the main hoist line of the nearby crane. It didn't just disintegrate from the radiation.

EDIT - Q2late

Oh yeah, agree with the Band of Brothers analogy from Frazod. It's a hard watch but it's so good it's worth the time.

Believe it not, the part that hit me hardest of all the trauma that occurred was in the first episode where the citizens outside of Chernobyl were watching radioactive death fall from the sky and looking at it like snow and smiling.

I guess it was because they didn't know. Great series.

Someone else may have mentioned it earlier in the thread but Midnight in Chernobyl is a good read if you are interested in more.
