I loved the SNES controller, and disliked the Genesis controller until the 6 button came along. I didn't acquire a Genesis until 96ish, but had a SNES from 92 on.

I REALLY wanted a TG16, but kind of happy I didn't get one since there was zero support for them out here. Neo Geo was a pipe dream due to cost.

I owned all but the TG16. genesis had the best library. SNES had the best marketing and licenses. NEO GEO had Sam Sho and the most longevity. I bought the Sega CD attachment when it came out. those games were horrid though.



NFL pro talk football '94 was the best sportsgame of that era. Lakers vs Celtics on genesis was pretty good too.

Lakers Vs. Celtics on Genesis was the shit. The special moves by stars and how the players looked unique was amazing back then. I wanted to kill myself when playing it on the SNES, though, it was slow as ****.

Electronic Arts was truly great back in that era. Now they kind of suck ass.

I remember walking into Best Buy in Tulsa in September 96' and seeing a 32x for $10. God that thing fell fast.

I picked up 2 NES Advantages for $5 each at Toys R' Us. This small town boy was in heaven when I moved to the "Big" city.

I still remember playing the Super Mario World demo back in 91 at the Software Etc. in Bannister Mall. So many great memories at that store.

I shopped there and the Electronics Boutique. the other place to buy games was Toys R Us. Nobody had Neo Geo games in inventory though. I didnt even know the console existed until I saw it in a HBO movie. then I had to save for a year just to get it. took six weeks to arrive. then I had to save for 6 months to buy a controller. then I had to save for 4 months to buy Sam Sho II. it was 1996 before I could play it. worth it though. the only other game I bought was puzzle bobble. that game was tight. way more replay value too.

With the super castlevania and the super metroid and the super mario world and the final fantasy franchise I was all about the SNES.

Plus their controller was obviously the best, which is why all the major consoles now use a similar button layout.

Interesting fact about the NES/SNES controllers. Nintendo owned the patent on how the directional pad worked. Sony had to completely redesign the internals yet maintain the tactile feedback.

Pretty crazy. I prefer a gen 1 PlayStation controller when playing emulator.

My mom got me an SNES from KB Toys in the Columbia Mall on December 3, 1991. It was one of the greatest moments of my childhood.

Great system. Wish I would have never sold it. I still occasionally play FF II and III (IV and VI) on an emulator.

III is amazing. The sound was fantastic, and story was unparalleled to that point. Bought it from Walmart in a shithole town called Liberal for $67.

V (Japan) was a grinders delight. Jobs, jobs, jobs.

SEGA Genesis and SNES. So many great memories on those consoles.

Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter 2, Eternal Champions or whatever that fighter was called, Super Mario World, Aladdin, TMNT: Turtles in Time.

I've played some on emulators and they're still fun. Others made me wonder what the fuck I loved about them (I'm looking at you, 007: Goldeneye for N64).

I've found that the 8 to 32-bit sidescrollers are typically still pretty fun. Basic AF, but fun. I could get down on some Mario Bros, Donkey King Country and Contra to this day.

When you start getting to the 3-D consoles, it's hit or miss. Those polygons didn't age well and the controls on a lot of those platformers was just garbage (now I'm looking at you, Tomb Raider for PS1).
